Opinions on these games to a newbie.

I have played a short quickie on 1 and 3 I think? Maybe demos?

As off today which are still playable and worth buying if any.

ANd how would you describe game compared to modern titles? eg similar games?
 
Thief 1 & 2 are looking seriously ropey these days. Thief 3 is still perfectly playable and very good (although not quite so good as Thief 2). It also contains probably the finest example of horror in a computer game, with the possible exception of AvP and Amnesia.
 
yeh well I heard system shock 2 was amazing but I tried to play it recently it looks so bad


also I wanna play AVP2 I heard its good and I have it on cd from ages ago
 
You have to put the looks of the game aside and concentrate on the core gameplay, be it Thief 2 or System Shock 2. Both are absolute classic's of pc gaming and well worthy of playing.

Don't let a game's graphics be it's be-all-or-end-all. :)
 
Check out the forums on ttlg.com for high res options, textures and meshes. There's also an absolute ton of fan missions for T1 and 2.

They're excellent games, though I personally never got into the Thief series as much as I did System Shock 2.

Was hoping someone would have bitched about Thief by now so I could call them a Taffer.

There's some great Thief 2 fan made missions about. I was out of action a few years back, and played through tons of them on my laptop. Some memorable ones included gatecrashing a party and a murder/ghost investigation.

As for the Cradle, it's a masterclass in level design. If you haven't already played through it - then play it. Once you have read this article: http://gillen.cream.org/thecradle.pdf

Thief 1/2 (they are basically indistinguishable) and System Shock 2 are in my all time 10 classic PC games list.

Man that place is creepy as hell... it came out of nowhere and the atmosphere is absolutely perfect.

Gotta love them all really. The first 2 aren't that dated that they're difficult to play (like the earlier Hitmans) and the 3rd is just as good.
 
Bought Thief 1/2 on White Label (or whatever), and could never get it to run on nV hardware. Shame, because I keep hearing how excellent they were.
