Things that once seemed normal but aren't allowed now

Train windows that opened at the bottom, lobbing toilet rolls out of them.

Spending the entire day out on trains and buses with mates and nothing more than a day ticket, kids seem to need so much more money these days, they cant go and look they need to buy, everything!

Another thread on here got me thinking about the time I flew to Tenerife in the early 90's. Being my first flight I asked the cabin crew mid-flight if I could see the cockpit and was allowed to. Looking back this would never be allowed now.

So what other things used to be quite normal and are now not allowed?

I've asked to see the cockpit on my last trip to the states (this April) and that was fine.

As others have said, smoking in restaurants etc

Was watching Airline the other day and people were SMOKING on a plane! Craziness!

5 years from now will we be saying, remember when we couldn't use mobiles on a plane?!

Also... Smarties that tasted nice.

Really?

Everything get's banned at school though.

Football Stickers,
Mini Boglins,
Micro Machines,
Ring Raiders (as if they didn't plan that name!),
Poggz (? the disc things)
Hackey Sacks

and my favourite

Leather Footballs. Because they hurt if they hit you in the face.
Brilliant, so instead we all got Foam balls. And then what happend? On the days when it rained (all of them) it would just soak up all the water and mud and leave dirty great muddy marks all over people who would then return to class drenched.

Trains without corridors (ie 6 or 8 seats in a single cabin)
Quosh orange which was flourescent with tartrazine
Standing at football grounds
Caning schoolkids (and slippers, bats etc)
Proper exams that not everyone could pass
Decent sized mars bars
Ring pull cans where the ring came off (and could then be flicked at ones mates)
Pen pals

I'll add some more when I've had a bit of a think!

id love to blow up all the tabloids offices. The country would be a significantly better place to live, FACT.

People being able to take pictures of their children or children they know without a single worry someone might ask why they have pictures of children.

Oh yeah, people aren't allowed to take pictures of their own children in swimming pools or most public places anymore. What the hell?

When I was flying to canada with my parents, my dad happened to know the pilot. I was allowed to sit in the jumpseat while they landed the plane (a 747) was so awesome. Would definetly never be allowed now though.

Aw, I did that when I was like 4. Loved seeing the cockpit while in flight. :D

Smoking on planes. It used to stink

Smoking on buses and trains for that matter, especially in those little 8-seat compartments on the old slam door trains.
Penny sweets that actually cost a penny to buy.
Pfft, I remember when they were 1/2p :p

What about those silver gobstoppers that looked like a shiny ball bearing? They were banned because they were covered in aluminium powder or something :D

Also related...anyone remember those little bomb things, they were wrapped up in paper, you threw them on the floor and they banged and gritty bits came out? They came in yellow boxes of 100 I think and had sawdust filling the boxes up...can't remember the name of them at all! :(

Sticker cards with weird flavoured bubble gum in them...earliest I remember were Cabbage Patch Doll ones and then *thinks hard* some sort of evil cabbage patch...I can barely remember them but they were stuck all over a mates door.
Rio Snappers (or Fun Snaps) and Garbage Pail Kids. I saw Rio Snappers in a local shop this week as it goes, I thought they were banned years ago. You used to be able to buy big tubs of flash powder which was, I think, magnesium powder. **** me you could make some scary home made fireworks with that stuff

having a smoke in the pub, looking in the cockpit of the plain on the way to Spain, taking a screwdriver out with your bmx and or skateboard and getting it taken off you when its in your bag for being a offensive weapon, ba ba black sheep(now rainbow sheep),old people not being scared to go out since they would slap any cheeky chav now the older person will get arrested, street party's, getting in a fight at school and once the teachers had split it up that would be the end of it maybe a telling off now the police get involved, morning and afternoon mail.

things i expect to get put into this category

having a drink in the pub if your with a adult who buys you the beer when your underage, going more than 70 on the m1 without average speed cameras all the way down, having a smoke outside, drinking as much as you like, snooker, most fairground rides.

i could go on end of the day this country is turning quite bad.

Charter flight to Zante with some friends around 16 years ago, smoking a ciggy at the back of the plane whilst admiring the view.
