Things to do around Padstow?

Could hire some bikes and do the Camel Trail :) Padstow to Wadebridge and back is around 10 miles

Rock is very nice (if a little posh) with some lovely unspoilt beaches. It's across the bay from Padstow and you may be able to get a boat across, if not there's road accees.

You've also got Port Isaac (lovely picturesque village port where Doc Martin was filmed) and Tintagel (King Arthur's castle) nearby too.

Treyamon bay and constantine bay are worth a shout, about 4 miles from Padstow. They're really nice beaches and some decent surfing for beginners at constantine (theres a surf shop in the village)

my favourite place to go, very tranquil, but never been there for a week before...

steins chippy is great but his chips are poor so i just have 2 fish :D

the only down side to the place is its full of toffs, mainly rich daddys girls/boys who have been sent there by their banker mother/father for the summer.

Want some dip for that massive chip on your shoulder?

Was down there the other week - do the Camel trail cycle ride and hit Tintagel castle. There's not much castle there but the views are awesome.

Yep you can get a boat across the bay and take bikes on it too. I did a large circular ride starting at Bodmin, running up the trail to Padstow and then Rock, Polzeath and Wadebridge before returning to Bodmin again. The scenery around there is amazing.

Or walk up the beach at Rock when the tide is out, to the golf course and go see St Enodoc church, and Betjeman's grave. Here

Was there about 2 weeks ago, major lack of sea gulls compared to previous visits which is a good thing. But huge quantities of jellies.

I rode the Camel trail with my partner, neither of us ride often at all and we managed to go from Padstow to Bodmin and back (about 25 miles), but will likely take you all day if you strop at pubs and for picnics in the process.

Are you taking a car?

Things to do in or around Padstow - Chasing Mermaids?

A song I remember a Cornish friend of mine from Barry’s Lane Padstow used to sing years ago:

My father was the keeper of the Trevose light
And he slept with a mermaid one fine night
Out of this union there came three
A porpoise and a porgy and the other was me!
Yo ho ho, the wind blows free,
Oh for the life on the rolling sea!

He told me the most beautiful girlfriend he ever had was a Cornish Mermaid, lovely figure too by all accounts: 36 – 22 – and 36 pence a pound.

Strange people those Cornish! (loved em really).

In Padstow, try and spot a building that's not got the word "Stein" painted on it! That'll keep you busy for hours :)

Rock is nice, as is the Camel trail (walk or cycle). (both recommended in previous posts) Bring your own bikes if you can. If you're gonna hire cycles, there's 2 good hire places next to the Lobster Sanctury (what!). Bring driving licence as ID. Watch out for local gypo kids trying to sell you stuff, and watch out for the 2 tier pricing system, the cheapest being for locals, over-inflated prices for people, without whom, would mean Cornwall in general would generate no money/be a dive.

Avoid Polzeath. Over rated, and is very commercial surf bum.

Do the costal walk from Port Quin (we stayed in one of the 3 cottages there) to Port Isaac, or the other way around. DO NOT follow the signs for beach parking in Port Isaac. The streets are generally 6 inches narrower than your car, with locals trying to drive back up the hill. Park at the top of the cliffs and walk down. (just east of the beach, well, small harbour).

Cornwall, nice scenery with a retarded robbing populus! I've been once, never again.

Hope this helps.
