Hi folks,

We've got a week there from next Wednesday as my best mate is getting married on the 7th of April. Now obviously we don't want to spend a whole week gambling

So what else is there to see and do around the area, we're open to travelling around Nevada/Arizona areas.

Cheers,
Paul

edit: Yikes not liking the exchange rate these days, £1 = $1.44 :(

Grand Canyon, the Hoover Dam and Death Valley are all good day trips.

Go see a show as well there, you have things like the Blueman Group and Cirque Du Soleil too. It's a massive tourist/entertainment hub, there's lots to do.

Grand Canyon, Red rock canyon, Bonnie Springs, Outlet village shopping, Hoover Dam/Lake Mead, missus did a skydive ( if interested ) , Area 51 , Death Valley

Don't fall for this go to Grand Canyon by helicopter/ Land at bottom stuff, YOU CAN'T DO IT

will explain more if needed

what's red rock canyon like? I saw some sort of ranch thing you can do out there where you ride horses around for a few hours then go back to a ranch for grub

Is there anything else in LV besides casinos?

Mum, Dad and sister went to LV about 5 years ago - I don't think they spent more than about $50 "gambling" between them the fours days they were there. They said they wished they had another 4 days to see/do everything.

you can do that from the Canyon rim but you can't fly there from Vegas

I cant remember exacly where we flew from but i remember having to drive around 20mins to get there so you're probably right

Edit - The Freemont street is pretty good at night when the light shows are on!

The Vegas/Canyon trips are pushing being a scam, they take you to what they tell you is the West Rim of the Grand Canyon, in reality this is a place called the West Canyon and is over 100miles from the "proper" canyon

If you Google "grand canyon west rim" you will see all the results are commercial ventures

Hire a car drive to the south rim of the grand canyon stop over night to see the sunrise and sunset and avoid the day trippers, then drive back the next day. You can hire a mustang for two days for around £150 and get a room near the canyon for £100 so it's cheaper than the flying daytrips and a damn sight more comfy than the coach option!

Go and see the hotels (Gondola in the Venitian, etc) - they're awesome. There's a couple of rollercoasters (New York, New York, and somewhere else that I can't remember the name of, arabian type place IIRC), the rides on top of the stratosphere. Shop in the nice shops, eat at the nice restaurants, see a show, play some golf.

would you recommend the car hire/stay the night route as well then?
