Things to do in and around Las Vegas

would you recommend the car hire/stay the night route as well then?

Just to expand a bit on my reasons for recomending this, the major advantage is that you can take things at your own pace. On the way up you can stop off and have a good nose around the hoover dam and then pop across to Seligman which is the town at the start of route 66 which is suposed to be th inspiration behind radiator springs in the movie cars. Then when you get to the canyon you can spend as long as you want at the bits you want without the pressure of the ticking clock added to which you get to see sunrise and sunset which are turly spectacular and don't come with the day trip. Finally you get to go on a bit of a road trip which is a US tradition.

I like your thinking!

I really would love to visit Vegas. For a start I love a bit of poker and blackjack so could quite happily waste a few hours a day doing that. I would also like to see a show and do the usual trips to the Grand Canyon and the Hoover Dam.

Has anyone that has been won a decent amount of money when visiting?

When i went i did most of the above, i also went to the Gun Store or something similar and shot loads of guns for a few hours. Off the top of my head i went for

Tommy gun
M249
M4 Carbine
Some kind of Shotgun
G3A3
and a
Silenced MP3

I was there for 10 days last year with a few friends, we managed:

- most casinos
- chopper to Grand Canyon
- Hoover Dam
- Show (Cirque)
- Watched Ballagio fountains (not hard as we were staying there)
- Gun shop (and firing!)
- Pools / parties :)

Seems not a lot but we packed it in and had a laugh!

Dont forget all the clubs and excellent places to eat.

Going in May for the third time, I cant wait. Got a few more times yet to catch up to Rotty. :p

Don't fall for this go to Grand Canyon by helicopter/ Land at bottom stuff, YOU CAN'T DO IT

will explain more if needed

AFAIK only one company can do it and its called Maverick Helicoptor Tours or something like that as two different work mates did the landing in the bottom

I loved Vegas when we were there, we stayed for 10 days and tbh it just wasnt long enough.

We did a whole lot of gambling, eating, drinking and shopping, took the helicopter nightflight, had a trip to Hoover Dam and had the excursion down to the bottom of the canyon.

a couple that we met whilst there did the Richard Petty driving experience thing and said it was good but they didnt get to do an awful lot of driving.

I played golf on the cloud nine short course at the angel park course, i didnt want to annoy the missus too much, so stuck to 9 holes....the nice thing was that i ended up going around with the night manager of the luxor (where we stayed for 5 nights), who ended up giving us loads of comp stuff such as a free spa session for the wife.

All in all you wont be struggling to find things to do in vegas, its the best and most interesting place i have ever been to.

i went in dec 2007

what ever you do, you MUST go to the steak house at the circus circus hotel

also have lunch or dinner at the buffet at the balagio, its awesome, and dont forget the fountains there as well

i went for the week and did almost every large hotel/casino on the strip

belagio is the most plush, i stopped in the mgm grand. ny ny is cool as is excaliber

theres a pirate show down the other end at treasure island and the paris hotel is cool, with a mini eifel tower and nice shops

caesars palace mall is great and i'd advise having lunch in there at 'joes'

also go on the gondela and look at the shops in the venitian

and as mentioned, get to the gun store and shoot some ak47's etc

A guy I used to drink with used to go to Vegas about 10 times a year on 'business'. He made his living just gambling out there and made a fortune.

please tell me that's not true

it's true, trying to be as cheap as possible, we have our own wedding as well this year.

and yes I have seen some of the reviews, albeit a bit late :p

where do you tend to stay out of interest?

Stayed in many places, tend to use the Platinum recently

Got the Encore booked this year, stayed at Wynn last year.

Cant wait, and tbh the price was more than acceptable.

We've booked to see Mystere: Cirque du Soleil. Looks like it should be good. Looked at Love but the tickets are way too pricey
