Things to do in Edinburgh

When we went last year, we done the The Johnnie Walker Experience, Edinburgh Castle, National Gallery, Holyroodhouse and had a walk around Princes Street Gardens.

We also drank loads in various pubs and bars.

We was there for two nights.

re Johnny Walker Experience, what was that involved? I was going to do this instead of the Scottish Whisky tour due to the car on the rooftop. And how much "talking" over actual drinking/tasting do they let you do?

They offer different tours. We walked in and were told there was a tour starting in 10 minutes if we wanted to join.

The tour we went on included a brief history of Johnny Walker and explained why whisky can taste different depending on where it’s made. Then we got to mix our own drinks, followed by a couple more in the bar.

Me and the wife enjoyed it.

Eat some scotch eggs, drink some scotch whiskey, buy some scotch tape

Punch an englishman

Shout freedom

The castle isn't free to get in, but it's worth the cost, and you can just wander around when you get in.

The Royal Yacht has been mentioned. I really enjoyed it and it has audio tours which are available in different languages, see here: https://www.royalyachtbritannia.co.uk/visit/audio-tour/

Edinburgh is a great place for just walking around and seeing things. The city centre is so small, and everything is close together so you can do it easily. I'm talking about the old town, the Royal Mile, not the bit the north side of Princes Street.

It's a nice place to just mooch around.

Dont go in a cafe and ask for a latte with oat milk

Wee dinnie want any of yer english oat milk,

we want our scottish triple distilled 110% 20 year scotch reared haggis covered scotch oat liquid. Double filtered by pouring it through the digestion system of William Wallace

If you fancy a beer pop into dirty D#cks pub just behind princes street, nice little place. Or the ensign ewart if you're near the castle.

Actually, quite simple things.

Great views and posing in front of said great views.

She won’t really care about the history behind the thing she is standing in front of, beyond knowing how old it is mostly.

Calton Hill - Standard Edinburger Instagram

Botanic Gardens - Looks like the Glasshouse is temporarily closed

Vennel Viewpoint - Classic Instagram

Greyfriars Bobby Grave! - There is a small statue of the dog if you know the book / film not far from the Kirk

National Museum of Scotland - Wander round if you wish (quite a nice building, new and old) but the roof terrace (6th floor from memory) gives you a different persperctive of Edinburgh

Victoria Street / Victoria Terrace - Another classic Instagram for the multicoloured shop fronts. There's also a Harry Potter shop there which is usually queued out of the door.

George Street looking towards Harvey Nicks beyond St Andrew Square Garden - The top of the St James Quarter looks like a poop emoji!

All of the above are free but if i can think of something else along those lines then I'll get it posted.

I came back from Edinburgh today.
We did Royal Yacht Britannia (loads of languages on an earphone thing), Surgeons Hall Museum (you don't need words in there), Mary's King Close (that's the underground City), The Castle and only two Wetherspoon.
Also went down to Rosslyn Chapel again.

How could I forget the absolutely utterly amazing Hop On Hop Off Tours with all languages on the headphones.
Everywhere we go in Europe that has a Hop On Hop Off or similar tour we always do them.

The green one with the onboard guide was fantastic when we were there - Genuinely knowledgable, and a bit of banter at the same time. We got on near Calton Hill and did the full loop, then used it as a hop on/off to where we wanted.
