I swapped everything over to my new Fractal case last night. Everything went in fine, I couldnt be bothered hiding all the molex cables so left them at the bottom in the spare fan compartment.

I went to plug the keyboard etc in and had missed the backplate. I have forgot to install the blackplate 3 times now when re-building. So annoying.

Will either leave it off or unscrew the board tonight and stick it in

Power cable...

Seriously, build done, plug all the cables in and hit the power button; NOTHING!!? NOOOO, WHY?? Oh... d'oh!

5 times out of 10 for me tbh. :P

Can't say Ive ever missed anything in all three of my build and about 8 cleaning / cable mangement works :p

only that I forgot to plug the power lead in (to the powersupply)

I did forget the RAM once:p but that was my mates system and it was a DoA

I've forgotten the back plate before. I also have a habbit of turning the PSU off at the back and forgetting i've done it which then leads to 2 minutes of confusion when i hit the power button and nothing happens.

Built one last night, only thing wrong was I had to unplug and replug in the main HDD for some reason, other than that, all good I hope

Actually I lie, that moment when you press the power button for the first time and nothing happens and you facepalm

Then realise the PSU power button is flicked off :p

I have had power lead and power button mishap as well, many many times, its just a part of the build :)

But, the worst case of forgetting that happened to my friend happened even before i started building PC for him. He asked me to to speck him a machine, i e-mailed him links for all components he needs to buy, all in same shop, in same e-mail.

He never bought motherboard.

Just remembered, once, about 8 years ago i put the cpu in the socket, put the big heatsink on and fired up the machine. I realised after a minute or two that I had put no cpu paste on, all was fine and nothing was broken.

Another time I connected everything up, shut the door on my case but forgot to plug in the cpu fun. Again, I remembered after about 20 seconds of it being on

Back plate always used to get me so you are not alone. For more complicated builds, i draft a quick tick off sheet especially if i'm doing more than one PC at a time otherwise I'd have no chance of remembering what I'm doing.

I took CMOS battery out of a new motherboard

then flashed the BIOS to the latest version

panicked when it didn't save the new settings

panicked even more when I realised I needed to put the battery back in so was going to have to switch the system off

that was a new trouser moment

Still, we all learn from our mistakes (hopefully)

Backplate a couple of times.

Or, after a bout of frenzied cable management, forgot to re-plug in the PCI-E power cable to my 8800. I nearly **** when the buzzer screamed at me when I went to turn it on.
