Right, get ready for this.

I got the arctic freezer pro 7 the other day and got round to fitting it just now, as i was waiting for Articlean to arrive. So, i turn everything off and take the mobo out ready to get going.

Cue 1/2 hour of consumate half-arsery.

Firstly, taking the stock heatsink off. I unfasten the bracket and pull the heatsink off relatively easily, only looking to find that the cpu is stuck to the bottom, and i tell you it was absolutely baked on, would not budge at all.
Ok, so i get the hair-dryer out and try heating it up. bingo, the cpu comes off with no problem.
Then, as i am holding it up to the light to have a look at it, (get ready for it) a pigeon flies in to my window making a massive bang almost scaring me to death and causing me to drop the cpu on to the floor, and fall off of my chair.

If you can imagine it, i could not find the cpu for about 10 minutes!!
Anyway, maybe it's gone over by the bookcase, ok i'll just move my shoes out of the way, hold on whats that rattling in my shoes?
I took out the cpu and it seemed ok. removed the thermal paste and put it back in the socket.

Then came fitting the new heatsink. Wow, that was a pain. Had to push down really hard to get it fitted worrying all of the time that i was forcing it too much, but aparrantly they are not that easy to fit on amd boards.

I have everything up and running now and everything seems ok, it would appear that i have gotten away with it. (what if i had put my shoe on?)

I have 2 questions though.
1. My idle temps since i fitted it have gone up slightly(not exactly worried but they should go down surely) from 25-27 with stock to 28-30 now. Does this mean there is a problem with the thermal paste maybe, or possibly the cpu surface? i really don't want to take it off again.

2. Is pigeon damage covered in the warranty?:D

had prime 95 blend on for about an hour now with temps at a constant 45 cpu/25 system, about the same as stock. but it is absolutely silent.
I can hardly tell the difference between 30% and 100% fan speed!

one thing though, i bought this so that i could start overclocking, but seeing as it hasn't bought temperatures down, will it be alright?
or do idle temps not matter for overclocking?

cheers.

Sounds like something from Final Destinaton Lol.

You probably need to wait for the thermal paste to cure. A good session of prime should assist with that.

yeah, temps are ok but i was just wondering because i fitted new cooler so i could oc a bit but the temps are the same as stock? does that matter or will it make a difference at higher usage?

btw. 2 hours of prime blend now at a constant 45degrees. seems alright.

The new cooler will definitely help once you start overclocking, it will be able to dissipate the heat quicker due to the larger fin surface area and the improved fan airflow.

I turned Prime off after 2 hours and it is at 22degrees now:)

i really wouldn't like to fit this again though, as it really was a very tight fit on my AM3 mobo.

i just used the turbov evo software that came with my motherboard.
i set the auto-tune and it has oc'd to 3961mhz.
i assume this will be safe?
Should i leave it like this all the time?

965be btw

also, i got a message saying i need to run windows index thing again and i think my RAM score has gone down. it is 5.9, but before i'm sure it was higher. is there a way to find out what it was before?
If it is lower, what does it mean?
corsair 4gb xms3

cheers
