Hi guys,

Earlier in the year i bought the hd650 recolour from massdrop, i just had an email from 'customs clearance ltd' asking for me to make a payment in order to release an item sent by dot com distribution. It doesnt tell me what the item is etc but i can only assume it is the headphones as i've bought nothing else.

Charges due
Customs Entry £ 8.00
Import Duty £ 4.18
Import VAT £ 31.92
Total £ 44.10

Does this sound legit, has anyone ordered from massdrop before and had to pay customs? I'm happy to pay (happy is a stretch...) but just don't want to be getting scammed?

Cheers

Well, at least they're not charging you big service fee for customs clearance you can do yourself directly.

You would have been charged BEFORE you were allowed to receive them. It's a con.

HMRC phishing emails, texts and tax scams
HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) will never use texts or emails to:

  • tell you about a tax rebate or penalty
  • ask for personal or payment information

I don't have the headphones yet, the last email from massdrop was 25th Nov saying that they were shipping.

You said earlier in the year, and as if you'd had them. All customs charges are pre-sales. And if its coming from another country the royal mail hold it if any duties to be paid.

He says he bought them. That means nothing in regards to receiving! The customs clearance is asking for payment to release it. I don't think op would be making a post otherwise!

I had to pay duty to release an item from DHL his year too and it was when it has arrived in his country.

But my point stands. He wouldn't get an email.

CCL is a real company but their site is so goddam sketchy you have to make an effort to believe it's not some scam site.

Their first FAQ is about whether they are a scam site...

FFS spend some money on making it look less scruffy.

I had same thing for my mass drop HD650, paid and the phones were delivered within a day or 2.

You should also see a duties payment received on your DHL tracking info after paying.
