Thinking about ditching the PC

Evening chaps,

I'm due to move soon and it's prompted me to evaluate my current gaming set-up.

At the moment I have a PS4 Slim (didn't see the point in Pro) and my PC (i5, GTX970 etc..) and I'm debating selling the PC, and getting an Xbox One (so I can keep playing Halo Wars, Gears and the other 'exclusives'.)

The reasoning for this... I'm not sure. I don't play my PS4 enough and the other day I sat down and played some Uncharted and I just enjoyed sitting on my sofa playing on my big TV. I know I could hook-up my PC to the TV but it's not really the same form-factor!

The ease of it as well is a big factor. I've had issues before with games and my PC being a pain (though it was my own fault...)

So, I guess I just want people opinion on the matter. Has anyone else ditched the PC and gone console only? (I know it's a stupid question to ask on a PC enthusiasts forum! :D )

I'm a PC gamer and I game on my TV, I wouldn't go back to a desk and monitor either. I use a Xbox360 controller for some games like GTA5 and Gears4 and Dirt3, but most of my games I play K/M. Then there's Kodi. Having a PC connected to you TV gives the ultimate in flexibility, my tower isn't small, it's s standard ATX case, but it still relatively discreet, though when AMD's new cpu comes out I'll down size and get a mini itx case. There's just no chance whatsoever of me ever going back to console, more games, cheaper games and the unlimited possibilities of a 'media centre'. Not a chance

I built a budget pc last year while I wait was for Ryzen CPU's (i3-6100,16 GB, RX-480), I don't why but I enjoy playing the PS4/Wii U more. Maybe I don't like gaming on my desk?

I use a 144Hz G-sync monitor both as a gaming screen and also as my TV via either my PC via a long DP lead or the Amazon Firestick I have in it. Sound is provided by a Soundblaster Katana.
I use a DS4 wirelessly to play games on it from my comfy position.
Benefits of living in a small flat.

I did a couple of years back, broke the PC up and went console only (PS4 and One).

Haven't looked back, haven't missed it in the slightest.

Do it.

I barely game on PC these days to be honest and I don't miss it. I was the same and had bought a house with the wife and moved the PC into the attic/office as I didn't want a tower in the living room. I presumed that I could continue to game in there but seen far less point when I started to enjoy more kicking back on the couch on the big screen. Better for when mates come over as well, had some great fun with beers and local co op at the weekend there. Less tech issues, I don't have the upgrade addiction anymore and to be honest games look great on both consoles! Horizon Zero Dawn is the best looking game out there in my opinion at this moment in time. Most of the major exclusives are optimized for console as well. I miss mouse and keyboard for FPS and strategy games but over all I'm not missing PC gaming at the moment.

I wouldn't, there's still lots of great games that are PC only. You could always get a Steam Link if you want the console-style experience, but I certainly wouldn't swap a competent gaming PC for an Xbox.

I plan on supplementing my consoles with a 1050Ti laptop so I can still access past gen games but it won't be my primary platform. I can stick it on the TV with HDMI and an Xbone pad when necessary.

I've got a perfectly capable gaming PC but seem to have become discouraged with the quality of PC titles out there. All I am playing heavily at the moment is Witcher 3 and the odd game of Subnautica. I am also not too pleased with the state of PC GPU drivers - AMD's latest implementation is very buggy and I've spent many hours recently just trying to get my R9 290 in a usable state to play the above titles.

Recently bought a PS4 Pro and spend more time playing the few games I have on that as the OS is nice and fluid and I haven't had a single issue with the games I have - they just work. For the first time in 30 years, I'll be moving the PC out of my bedroom and into a box room that I intend to make into a small office soon. The PS4 will stay in the bedroom where the main TV setup is. I'll still game on the PC (I'll never abandon it!), but won't deny that PS gaming for the near future looks seriously good.

Sold my PC years ago, much prefer the ease of console gaming. I own a PS4 and Xbox. I enjoyed and miss my PC days but I can certainly live without gaming on a PC now.

I used to play a lot of sim games and strategy games, like flight sim, red alert games, sim city, which are games that can only be played on pc or are generally better to play on pc with a mouse, but I would not buy a PC again just to play these.

I done that. Pc was being far too annoying, so since the tail end of the 360 and ps3, I've almost exclusively been a console gamer. Still play warcraft now and again. But that's it as far as pc gaming goes. Don't miss it in the slightest.

Couldn't do it personally. Although I do use my main rig for work also. I'm not wanting to start a war here but aren't those consoles underpowered? I saw Far Cry Primal on my mates Xbox and it wasn't impressive.

Your likely regret it, Most of the xbox 1st party portfolio will be on PC given Microsofts strategy and early rumours that this will be there last hardware released before they just go full software.

I have a PS4 Slim and love it, some quality games but I will always love the fidelity and just pure choice on the pc.

Check out horizon: zero dawn. It looks incredible.

Or uncharted 4. :D

Both look amazing.

Depends on your point of view. Remember with consoles developers have got the advantage with fixed hardware and can squeeze out a lot of detail/performance from GPU's that would seem aged to PC gamers. Uncharted and Last of Us have proved that solidly. PC's on the other hand can struggle with stable frame rates, thanks to lazy as hell developers. Playing Witcher 3 on my PC makes me realise that my PS4 Pro could never reach that level of detail, but then playing Uncharted 4 makes me realise how wrong I am.

That is also a dissadvanage as well. Console players want 4K with high end AA option? Forget it. On a PC, if currrent gen are a bit slow, then next gen cards will allow that.
Console is stagnent market.

Factor in lack of backwards compatibility for hardware & software, or one piece of hardware works on one console but another, so you need two of the same (for example steering wheels) or when a new console comes out, that wheel no longer works...

For me I just prefer playing games on the sofa with a controller, and being able to sit in the living room and chat with the other half instead of being tucked away in the study.

I have played a few games on PC recently and the loading times etc. have been a nice change....but I still like the sofa!

My HTPC is an i5 4460 and I'm kinda tempted to swap it into a case that'll take a full-height card and swapping out the 970 from my desktop into there for gaming. Will have to put some half-decent GPU in the desktop to replace it though as I still use it for game dev work.
