Thinking about getting a cheap tablet

I bought a cheap tablet, if you're expecting performance like a smartphone just turn back now dude.

The blackberry playbook is reasonably priced and offers decent performance I think.

Generally the more you pay for a tablet the better it will be. By better I mean faster, more stable, built with better quality parts, properly quality tested before being sold and also manufacturer support. For example an ipad is much, much better than a cheap Chinese tablet but you pay the price for it. It really depends what you want and what your budget is.

Being completely serious.... I have been looking at tablets for the past week, pretty much every night. What I keep coming back to is this...

The Nexus 7 16GB is incredible value for money, even taking into account the cheap chinese tablets. If you are looking for a tablet and don't need masses of space over long periods of time (i.e. you go home and can swap your music/vid collection out), then get that. Nothing really comes close. (An alternative is the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, but it really should be about £140 rather than £159 - the advantage is memory slot and a rear camera, but slightly less performance.)

The alternative I also keep thinking about is the Blackberry Playbook. IF you an get one cheap enough then it's a damn fine tablet for the money, if you can do without some apps like netflix/skype. Other than that it has an application for pretty much everything you could want, and is very very good quality. However - and here's the kicker - if it's coming close to the Nexus 7 price, then just opt for the Nexus. (EDIT: Skype IS coming to the playbook, along with the BB10 operating system and a whole host of other major apps).

The tablet you link to from OcUK, is not very good performance for games (especially 3D), has a very small battery, may not be compatible with some apps without doing some fettling etc.

I don't say the above things lightly. Don't blow your experience of tablets by getting a crappy one. Honestly... nothing really comes close to the nexus for outright performance/features (unless you need rear cam and memory slot) to the Nexus 7, in the 7 to 8" tablet space. Above 9" is where the chinese tablets start to become an option (imo), but you still have to make some sacrifices with those.

If you could find something like this for cheap, it might be worth it: PIPO U1Pro Dual Core RK3066 Android 4.1 Tablet PC Dual Camera HDMI 7 Inch IPS 16GB

But... once again.. as soon as you get within spitting distance of the nexus... most things pale in comparision.

Now in possession of said 'cheap' tablet lol.

However, in the process, I also noticed the Lenovo A2107 which apparently includes 3G connectivity. Interface seemed a bit sluggish tbh, but pretty damn good having 3G for just under 150.

Cheap tablets are horrible, my fiancee got a cheap tablet for £70, don't get me wrong the spec's should be more than capable of running the android 4.1 but seriously, it's laggy, crashes a lot and is just plain cheap feeling.

I felt bad and nearly bought her an iPad, instead got her a galaxy tab.

You can't beat the Sam Gal Tab 2 10.1..Works Great and you can add space via a 32gb card + pen drive if needed..

Hardly cheap now is it. Whilst 'cheap' is a relative term, they approx budget is hinted at by the OP's first post.

I would suggest you that Blackberry playbook have many features with affordable price. You have also shared amazing tablet in your link which I like most. There are lots of features in that tablet.

I bought the novo crystal 2 for my daughters birthday last Nov and I have to say for a £89 tablet it is dam good very surprising and I haven't noticed it being slow or sluggish in the apps she uses. Get the soul gem custom rom for it and its a decent cheap alternative.
