I usually go out running and cycling two or three times a week to keep fit, but when the weathers carp I wouldn't mind doing something at home. The problem is that I dont really have room for an excercise bike or anything in the lounge and I would want to watch TV or something to keep my mind occupied while I workout.

My mate told me that Wii sports can actually be used to excercise with - almost like shadow boxing but with more going on.

Anyone else use it in this way or think it would be a good idea getting one for this?

Wii sports is more energetic than normal computer games, but its no replacement for real exercise I'm afraid. If you get one thinking it'll help you lose weight or something then I feel you may end up very disappointed ;) its fun though.

You aren't going to get as good a workout as if you go running or go to the gym etc. Only major movements you make would be if you over exaggerated the arm movements etc.

A few games of boxing usual gives me a sweat apart from that nothing else in Wii sports will do much,I guess tennis does at first but when you get used to it its just a flick of the wrist. I have heard that some of the mini games in rayman can give abit of a arm workout (someone back me up here?)?

More of a workout than playing on any other console, but nothing compared to doing physical exercise in the real world... you'd be better off running up and down the stairs a few times.

Saying that, it's great fun so just get one anyway :D

Boxing can get the heart going a bit but it's not really a full workout, still, better than nothing though. I'm sure there will be a full Wii Fitness game sooner or later.

Who ate all the choccies over Christmas....

Im not sure if this is an excuse so you can get off with gaming more or trying to create a fun way of losing weight.
(imagines guy in front of tv jumping around telling wife hes not enjoying this losing weight stuff at all)

Crafty i like your way of thinking...

I guess if your used to excerise its not that good.

I havent done a workout for over 3 weeks, went onto playing my Wii, the next day my muscles were actually hurting, it felt the same as if i had gone to the gym the day before!

But i guess thats only a one day thing, and now playing it does not seem like doing much physical fitness.

But its better than nothing if you arent trying to over do the whole excercise thing.

And i can imagine that if you are overweight and are not used to throwing your own body weight around, it can actually be usefull as a small means of excercise. (i.e. getting you used to the whole fitness thing).

You could always play with strap on weights attached to your arms and ankles :D
Now theres an idea :)

I may just wait until an excercise game comes out - I'm sure that is an idea that's waiting to happen.

Just get a PS2 and dance revolution if you want a good workout at home! (plus it gives you an excuse to own Guitar Hero!!! :))
