Hello - after 7 years with my reliable BMW 330D, it's getting long in the tooth and needing some work.
I decided to look for a new (used) car and as my wife has a Leaf and we have a large double garage with a 7kw charge point, I thought I can look at EVs too.

I recalled the Jag I-Pace from 5-6 years ago and it seemed too expensive though I always liked the looks.
Looking at the used prices for them, I was pretty amazed by how cheaply they can be had - even low mileage clean examples.

For example nice SE and HSE examples can be found for well under £20k.
Range is not a problem for me, as me and the Mrs rarely go over 50 miles daily or 200 miles weekly.
As I mentioned the garage space and charging points are already there - and just using the granny cable would be fine for me in terms of topping up overnight.

The real question would be, are they reliable? And does the build quality last?
Living with one, day to day, would that be sustainable or would it drive you nuts? Especially interested in hearing from those who have actually owned one.

I should mention - not keen on Teslas, the overall aesthetic and lack of a physical dealer network. I test drove an Ioniq 5 (300bhp) and found the interior a bit stark and low-rent, and actually not that fast feeling.
 
The insurance costs and servicing will be high. Also if you want any level of warranty outside 3 years old, expect to pay £1500 per year.

Great car and I had one for 3 years on a lease. Just be wary they are no longer in production and cost a lot to run.

The local Jag main dealer has a few, and I'm test driving one on Saturday which is up for £17500. They have an offer at the moment for 24 months warranty & breakdown cover, which I think is good. Why are they expensive to run?
* edit * I just checked the insurance cost which is around £962 (twice that of the BMW 330D I currently have) but then I save on the road tax. And I would save £1500 on fuel costs - so insurance is not a deal-breaker.

Aren't these plagued with issues?

Started off ok when new, but then all sorts of things started to surface. Including really bad things like braking failure.

that's what I'm researching lol it seems like they had a number of bugs & glitches. by now all the recalls and issues should be sorted. As I mentioned I would get one from a main dealer with a 2 year warranty...
 
The ones with the single 12v battery (70 plate or newer) are better from a reliability perspective from my research.

I've had mine for 1.5 years with no issues at all until the charging flap lock failed and it's going to be repaired under warranty. I do now have a secondary issue that might need the boot struts replacing now but I'm going to see if resetting the boot height sorts it or not. Again, under warranty if not.

I'd say the car is great to drive if you don't need longer range. The efficiency of kw/m isn't great compared to modern EVs but if you can charge at home or free at work :D then you're laughing.

I'd get the warranty extended if you can when the included one is up as repairs can be expensive but it's always a gamble.
 
They're good to drive.

Does the warranty cover the battery?
Battery is covered under a separate 8 year / 100k miles warranty.

Edit: but outside of that I don't think the extended warranty covers it no. I'd have to check.

Edit 2: traction battery looks to be covered from years 9 to 10 but only up to 100k miles on the extended warranty.

EVs have moved on a lot since the ipace was launched for sure - I guess it's of interest because of the low price, 75-80% depreciation in 5 years is scary, and I can't think why anyone would buy new

Compare the tech (internally plus the battery tech) to other more modern EVs.

The tech has moved on quickly and the I-Pace is built on what I would call the first gen of battery EV tech.

If the range and charging rate is something that will suit your needs, then consider it, but my gut feeling is that there are better EVs out there for similar money.

Not as plagued as you are with utter drivel and FUD stories - link to the brake failures please, and I'll pee myself laughing if you link to the guy that was just arrested for pretending his brakes had failed, but he was just lying as he was caught speeding. If you can't link leave the thread and don't come back?

Just imagine. Surely someone has tried this on an EV.

"Sorry officer, my brake regen wasn't working".

Aren't the traction battery faulty cells the coup de grace -
you have a lottery that your car might be impacted and suffer reduced power until jaguar have time to replace impacted cells, or, offer a buy back,
what is the build date were you can be sure you won't be impacted
 
So you've linked to the dude that lied two/three times, and has been arrested this week and charged, and another one about the regen issue - this isn't the brakes, the brakes still worked fine. Must try harder 2/10.

Except the brakes didn't fail.

"I was driving along quite suddenly as I was braking and approaching an intersection my brakes completely failed and I had to put my full force using two feet to bring it to a stop as it was doing about 60 km/h at the time. This was alarming to say the least. I'm just getting it towed to the dealership and I will post an update once I know how this could possibly happen."

So, his brakes failed but he pushed down on his brakes and the car stopped. So the brakes were not working optimally, yet they stopped the car... ah yes the internet a great source of entertainment.

I am yet too see any actual brake failures, only issue with the regen braking. - 1/10 Fail, class dismissed.
