Well ive just seen a 19" widescreen similar to the hans g for £86  , which is pretty sweet price, so i was thinking bout taking the dip, i currently have a 17" crt, so i was wondering...

How does it compare size wise? Any1 got a link to that compare monitors thing?

And if anyones recently made the move, have you regretted it?

And finaly, are the cheaper models of monitor any good? i cant see much difference in a £30 dearer asus model other than branding, this true?

Thanks in advance if anyones got any answers to my many questions :D

its the one ocuk sell for 96, the hans star or something, or hans spree.

so anyone gone from a 17" crt to 19" ws tft ?

nice one! the 19" WS would have less pixels, but roughly the same hight and quite a bit wider, think i might go for it.

on a 19" WS is 1400*768 the max resolution?, because i prefer a higher resolution for my desktop. i use 1280 * 1024 on my 17"

It depends entirely on your needs,

Do you need the extra space a TFT provides? Do you need widescreen?

It's really your choice.

I dont think its worth going from 17 inch to 19, go for 22" or more.
Altho on the other hand seeing as its cheap and tft take up less room on your desk it could be worth going for.
Also i think if you are looking for higher resolutions you will have to go bigger than 19" maybe?
I got myself a 22" widescreen and it goes up to 1680x1050 which i use for my desktop and gaming and its pretty good altho not as cheap as your 19" :)

Zefan...you seem to know much about about the LCD's. have you seen the 2407 against the benq241W??? If so what your opinion on the best for gaming??? Ive got a 241...and good monitor...but not liking much for FPS. Cheers mate if you know or can provide any comments.

I haven't actually seen a 241, but my 2407 is lovely for games. Hardly any ghosting at all and great blacks/whites.

I've seen an 17 CRT directly alongside a 19" widescreen and to be fair its still a very big step up for the money imo if you can get one that cheap.

These programs that compare screen sizes are all well and good but to me, its a bit like when you get a tape measure out and measure diagonally across your current screen and try to picture how big your new one will look when it arrives, then you think "oh" a little disappointed because it hardly looks much at all but when you actually get the screen in front of you its like "wow" if that makes any sense to anyone!.

That makes a lot of sense to me. I've spent the past couple of weeks with a tape measure going "hmmm 24 inches doesn't seem too big" but when I got my monitor I was totally blown away.

hah yea! I got a tape measure out and compared it alongside my 22" sammy 226bw which i already had and thought to myself..."hmmm!". I also took pictures which actually look close too? but somehow in practice the difference in size and build quality (dell 24" is actually pretty thick framed) looks pretty massive! It seems you actually have to see it in the..erm..flesh to really appreciate how beasty these dell 24's are :D

cheers for advice, theres a value 20.1 inch (not ws) on sale at ocuk for 117 ish, which seems a better deal as its got a decent resolution...

any views on this?

the only thing that would make me hesitate in buying this is the fact that it is 20" and ive only got a 7600GT, so dont know whether id get decent settings on the newer games any more, and i dont wanna upgrade my gpu yet :p

so, might help to generalise it a bit, whats the best monitor for under £120?

Hi going from a 17 crt to a 19 tft will make a good difference. i think 17inch crts show about 16inches. A 19tft will show true 19 inches.Using a hanns g 19w and im impressed with it also used as my tv.

i think im gonna just go for it, i think its the best 19" ws for under 120 as specs are generally around 300 brightness (cant remember unit), its 5ms response and contrast ratio 1600:1 is high for price looking at all other monitors.

any chance people have pics of their 19" ws's for a look at the real life size?

Which one are you going for mate?

I'm also looking for a 19'' for my misses and this is the one I'm looking at but I'd much appreciate any thoughts or better alternatives.
