SoundMagic HP100
Philips Fidelio X1

I seem to have kind of found a good price for the SoundMagic HP 100 for £147 with next day shipping. But the Philips Fidelio X1 also seems to be getting quite a shout and cost £151+ on amazon. How do these 2 compare when gaming and music.

I will be planning on hooking this up with a Creative Soundblaster Z

X1 are better the hp100 are about as good as £99 akg k550 you don't really get great soundstage on closed headphones they all sound enclosed compared to open, unless you spend a lot more but even then open will always > closed in terms of soundstage

grab the x1 at £151 before they go back up it's what I would do the hype is for real great all rounders especially gaming movies electronic music.

I cant help but feel the soundmagic hp100 should really be around the £100 mark not that I have heard them but have read up on them on headfi.

Build quality is nowhere near the phillips either the phillips are aluminium in all the right areas the headband and earcup holders.

Both are fairly balanced with the X1 having a loose bass. It depends what you want, the HP100 is more versatile in that you can use them out the house. Both are about the same in terms quality.

I prefer the HP because it is fairly clewn sounding with a more refined low end.

What made you choose just these two? There's so many headphones out there!

While i choose them because of the Soundmagic HP 100 being referred to being one of the most neutral and naturals of them all. But then there was the X1 which had some good reviews as well and people comparing it to the HD 600 considering the price for the x1, which would be a steal for me.

Honestly the HD600 is a world class headphone and is just on a higher level. The X1 do not compare at all. I put the X1 on the same level as the DT990.

You will be happy with thr HP100 although they are a bit thin for my taste.
