Thinking of a Skoda Superb......thoughts?

I wouldn't buy an EV as the 2nd hand market for them in general is atrocious and I don't think I want to go for another lease this time!

This leaves me with conventional engines!

So you are in a buyers market, are you buying a Superb brand new, or is it nearly new or used (e.g. over 6 months old)?

The FUD has got to you I see.

FUD?

*edit* yeah, I had to Google that! :D

My "fear" of buying electric is not just the infrastructure not being ready but working in insurance I get to see insurers' attitude towards EV's - particularly when it comes to repair costs and vehicle valuations once the vehicle is more than 12 months old - I just don't want to be in that position by personal choice!

Thanks for the suggestion tho!

Why the need to push people towards EVs?

For some people it's just not an option. I don't have a drive. Charging infrastructure near me, and the places I drive regularly, is cack. I cannot own an EV. Period.

Can't comment on the newer ones but I've put 90k miles on my 2011 superb and it's been a great car.

Its the cr170 engine so has a bit more grunt than the lower engines which makes it more comfortable overtaking etc.

I did change all my shocks and springs for some Koni ones which made the handling better and less spongey.

I'd definitely consider replacing it with another newer model. The latest one looks great.

Not wanting an EV is fud? Are you on crack?
Seems to be the standard reply from any EV owner to someone who doesn't want to make the leap yet, I have a 'friend' who regularly posts derogatory comments to anyone on Facebook who dares to mention any reasonable reason why they don't want an electric car, he cannot understand (or maybe refuses to understand) how not everyone can afford a brand new long range Telsa

Almost certainly 2nd hand - I'd say between 6-months and a year old would probably be the sweet spot!

How much is the L+K at that age £33-35K? If you are buying outright not leasing, assume you are keeping it a long time? Have you checked to see what the new deals are like on them, they were running a 0% offer not too long ago with a decent deposit towards it IIRC. They are a nice spec, but 35mpg is a killer these day if you do decent mileage and are paying yourself, maybe look for a PHEV option if doing under 10k per year?

The L&K i had a test drive in is £28k - likely would be either via a PCP deal or a loan.

Mileage-wise I'm probably going to be between 8-10k and I get paid for business mileage so fuel economy doesn't have to be spectacular (whatever happens it simply can't be worse than the Kodiaq!)

I saw this explained on a video the other day by a damage claims assessor, it was crazy how anything remotely involving the battery/motor (or sometimes completely irrelevant) it was a straight right off with no questions asked. Made it super clear why premiums are so high for them!

I said this in another thread but the 1.5tsi engine that VW put in EVERYTHING is garbage. Terrible reliability, awful real life fuel economy, thrashy and completely unsuitable for anything above golf size - yet they put it in estates and SUV’s. Believe me, I speak from experience.

Avoid like the plague and get the 2.0ltr.

Yes, completely agree. Not only is it awful in the work Skoda Superb (and drinks fuel), my wife had it in her 2018 Audi Q3. Awful - slow, unresponsive, sounded terrible and drank fuel. We had that car for less than a year before getting rid of it. The engine ruined the car.

I have a 2016 Superb Sportline 2.0TDI

It's probably the best car I've owned (beating two A4s and an Octavia VRS).

Even at 8 years old with almost 100k on the clock, it's smooth and comfortable. There's a ridiculous amount of room in he boot and in the back seats.

Performance is fantastic. Mine is the 190hp Dsg and it really goes in sport mode but can also easily get 55mpg+ cruising on the motorway.

I've paid the car off recently so I've been tempted to upgrade to an A6 but it would be a lot of money for not much of an upgrade really.

I've currently got a Skoda Kodiaq - 1.5L petrol - don't ask!

Anyway, the lease is ending and I've seen a very tidy Skoda Superb 2.0 TSI L&K and I was wondering what people's experiences have been with these?

I went for a test drive yesterday and have to say I really liked it

Performance was night and day compared to my existing POS so I'm very tempted!

Annoyingly I'd be hit with the "luxury car tax" with the list price being over £40k but I'd have to make me peace with that!

Any thoughts??
Didnt the 1.5 fix the kangaroo effect?

I'm in a 2020 2.0 TFSI 4x4 Kodiaq SEL (witha few addons) and get around 25Mpg, it's normally in sport mode and I have a heavy foot.
I had a 2024 1.5 TFSI Kodiaq as a courtesy car and was getting around..... 25Mpg driving it the same as I drove mine

With the downside being when I needed to kick up a bit speed or overtake the 1.5 was just lacking and as you said roundabouts were crap too haha
Note entirely sure if theyre different boxes but hte 1.5 also seemed very against changing gears in a timely fashion.

I initially looked at the 1.5 and Im now 100% certain that I made the correct decision going with the 2.0 instead.

The newer trims seem to have lesser spec by default but I did like the auto mainbeam assist, came across as a very clever bit of tech.
I believe they're standard on the L&K mind, you should also have the larger main console which seems to run better than the smaller one (not sure if its a different processor or owt)

The interior with the new chrome effect wood or whatever it was is pretty dire compared to the old gloss (if you can put up with the finger prints)

Mine had an injector problem and despite being under warranty took them pretty much a solid 3 month to rectify it :(
Check if the ones you are looking at have and serive plans or warranty on them, apparantly the factory added 5 year warranty woudl have been far simpler.
I have the warranty added on after the initial 3yr warranty ran out and thought it the exact same thing... apparantly not.

My main options were towbar, sunroof and digital cockpit.
Obviously the first 2 are simply preference but I would add the digital cockpit (if it's still called that) is a worthy addition.

I also believe that if you simply add traffic signal recognition then you can add other "cheargeable" options via VCDS.

I did look at the superbs and would have been quite happy wiht a superb in a random obnoxious colour (Cant stand silver or black now) with the 2.0 (or above) if it had 7 seats.
Unfortunatley we've become accustomed to the additional seats and suprisingly they do get used a fair bit.

Have you looked on motorfinity or https://www.new-car-discount.com/ to see what kind of discounts they're offering on Skoda atm?

As others above have touched on I too don't feel that it's time to go full leccy
