Thinking of attempting a mod.

Nothing special. 4 5.25 bays in my PC-60. One DVDRW, and another will be taken up with a Zalman ZM-MFC3 when I get one. This leaves me two spare bays.

Thinking of somehow getting a fan or two in there. Seems a shame to have so much free space almost directly in line with my HSF and rear exhaust fan.

I was wondering how I'd go about it? Just take a dremel to the bay-covers to create space and mounting holes, or is there another, simpler solution I don't know about? Found some vented and filtered bay covers for Lian Li cases elsewhere, Would they be better to mod?

Never done anything like this before despite overclocking everything I've owned for years now!

This isn't an immediate plan, just an idea I had.

What say the experts? Can't provide pics at the mo, but can do in the next few days.

I thought of that, but none of the 3.5" ones do the stuff the Zalman does, especially the watt display which particularly appeals to me, as I've a 500w PSU and apparently an OCd Q6600 draws upwards of 300, I read somewhere!

Alternatively I could go the triple-bay 120mm fan route, and get the MFC3 into the sidepanel somehow? :D Would be great, but a bit beyond me I think!

What does the Zalman do then? For me, I run all my fan speeds and temp monitoring via software anyway. Can't be doing with monitoring it all via a front panel piece of hardware that I would look at once...automate everything then close the door and forget about it. As for the 500watt and q6600. I run the same and frankly don't care what it costs. I do my best to minimize it by running speedstep to wind the clock back. It costs what it costs, making me know exactly will just make me feel worse! ;) But seriously though, so what if it costs X amount to run, what are you gonna do? Go out and buy a newer Intel 45nm CPU which would cost more than the leccy to run a quad for the year anyway. We are becommming power obsessed, but with eneergy prices how they are I can see why. I say ditch the Zalman or get a 3.5" bay one.

It's not about the cost - it's about knowing wether I'm about to blow something up before I do it! :p

Can you get 3.5" bays that control 4 or 5 fans, though? I must admit I rather like the idea of a panel-mounted fan-control, although I'm wary about wether I've the skill to do it without making a serious mess of my case!

Looked at that too, but again it's 3 bays not 2.

Looks like I'm just going to have to either go 3.5" or start chopping bits out of my side panel, eh?! heh
