Thinking of getting a new graphics card.. but which one?

I agree, there just isn't enough DX11 games out there to justify spending £200+ on what is first gen DX11 cards. Plus the performance isn't huge over decent DX10 cards.

To the OP, save yourself some money and buy a 4870 or 4890, if you want to go with Nvdia get a second-hand GTX 275 or 285.

Until there is enough DX11 content, then such DX11 cards are just a novelty.

I see.. there arent any 4890 on the site :(

It seems I've been beaten to the 5770 suggestion. Seriously go for it, it is a great card for the price, runs everything maxed out for me at 1280 * 1024.

The 4870 and 5770 are similar in performance terms, however the 5770 uses quite a bit less power due to its chip size.

For the res you are gaming at, I think a 4850 won't quite be powerful enough (unless you can find a GDDR5 version that is twice the price generally).

As mentioned aboe the 5770 only has one advantage over the 4870, the use of DX11, and at the moment it really isn't worth it. Towards the end of the year and into 2011 we will be seeing more DX11 games, but theres not a great deal coming any time soon.

Purely for price to performance, the 4870 is the best choice. If you don't want to go for an ATi card, Nvidia's GTS 250 has similar performance but it a bit more expensive.

If you wanted to go for even more performace, or turn up the AA etc, then you may want to consider a 4890 (available for around £145), or the GTX 260 - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-016-ZT&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1341

My vote goes to the 5770, using one now after coming from a 4650 in my last rig. Night and day difference and can usually max new games out without AA on at 1920x1080
Im sure you wouldn't be disappointed.
