Im thinking about getting a PSP to take on holiday in a months time.

Anyway im not quite sure what to get...UK version or Japanese version as there seems to also be?

Also what is the best firmware thing to get it with? does it make a difference?

Is 1GB the biggest card you can buy? As i would like to put a few movies on the memory card to take with me

And last how much should i be looking to pay for a new PSP/2nd hand?

Any other info appreciated, thanks

ps. PSP is better then DS for games and movies, right? :o

Movies? Yes.

Games? Debatable.

I'm sure you'll get 100 people in here slating the PSP, and a fair few defending it, but at the end of the day it's down to what kind of games you like. The PSP does have good games, but for me there just aren't enough of them, and they aren't interesting enough for me to want one. However, it's still an excellent system, so you won't go wrong with getting one. :)

Only like mine for movies as the games are pritty crap.
I am looking forward to powerstone tho.
Also i just put the megadrive emulator on mine and
now i finaly get to play some quality games on it.

Dont think! Get the psp Immediately.

Get the following
Syphon filter
Ridge racer
Socom
Deads to rights
Tennis
Splintercell essential
(any other list is inferior) :o :D

As per the movies...erm dont bother, i believe you have a dvd player.
I am not too fussy about firmware, but i know people buy and use the 1.5 and stay shy of upgrading because of homebrew games (no more dissusssions/question about this - not allowed). At the moment, i think there is a 2.71 version out as firmware.

My advice would be to buy a new one, that way you can return it if anything happens.
DS vs Psp? i would go for the psp no doubt.

Buying a PSP has been a choice Ive been considering lately. Was going to buy it to play games mostly. Mostly driving games tbh.

Not sure about what Firmware is best anyway. Would be thinking of getting a UK version.

Are the Firmware updates available to download off the net? Offically?

What seems to be the fastest flash cards for PSP's atm?

Yeap, i did mine two days ago.

I think most card will do, i dont think it suffers from read or memory error reading.

I only ever see Sony or Sandisk Memory Sticks for sale. There probably is a slight difference in reading speeds. I think some Sandisk ones were proved to be a bit faster than the official ones at some point.. not sure if its still the case.

I was going to sell my Japanese PSP, but then some half decent games came out like Pursuit Force and Syphon Filter :) If you don't go the dodgy ver 1.5 firmware route (you probably can't with new PSPs anyway), then the newest firmware is always the best. 2.6... or 2.71 is it now? Sony's always adding extra stuff to the XMB.

Thanks for the comments. Seems straight forward then. Dont want to use any homebrew stuff anyway. Aslong as propar games, films work, its all good :)

Getting a 2gb stick (sandisk one, only cost me like £40!) has changed the PSP for me. Being able to put videos and pictures makes it very useful.

I have GTA:LS but haven't played it much since getting samouri warriors - very fun game but fairly repetitive. Its much the same as dynasty warriors on PS2 but with a little more tactics and redisigned for PSP by having smaller fights which build to make the whole battle. Its good fun.

Am looking forward to final fantasy XII coming out which should be good. I find i don't need a huge amount of games as i mainly use it on journeys.

Only down side is quite a lot of the games are remakes of PS2 titles, i don't have a PS2 so this doesn't affect me but it is worth considering. Although might be a good thing to play a game you liked on PS2 on the move.

I share the same thoughts. The PSP games are all remakes of classics such as GTA etc. The Nintendo DS however has a lot more original games and I haven't stopped loving it since the day it was released! And the screen on the PSP ghosts a lot but then again I haven't used any fast paced games on my DSL. This is all IMHO of course :)

bingo. They're the same old games just in portable form. And yes I'm a Nintendo fanboy :p

To be honest that argument doesn't really stand up now, maybe at first the PSP had nothing but driving games but now it has a huge catalogue of different titles/genres. Check out Loco Roco for something that’s very different.

At the end of the day for anyone looking at buying either of these, both the DS and PSP are great handheld systems, it’s just a case of deciding what you want from a portable system (games/media/etc) and checking out the games available on each and base you decision on that, probably better than the opinions of people who own one over the other.

PSP screen is fine, and thre are lots of decent puzzle games, other sports games not just decent racing ones.

2Gb stick should be ok and Sony Memory Stick Pro's i believe are now same speed as Sandisk - eventhough the latter where faster at one point early on

If you are thinking of getting a PS3 then the PSP is a good thing to have as they will / can be used in conjunction with one anotehr once the former is released.

This month Sony are also releasing Location Free TV device which you connect at home to aerial and internet etc and your psp with an internet connection can pick up and control what your home network can pick up
