But is it worth it i dont multitask the hardest work my pc goes through is games, so basically all i want it for is to improve my games framerates.

I wouldn't bother if you purely want a performance boost from games, you'd be better getting another graphics card - your graphics performance should be top notch though. Games are starting to use dual-core processors but not in a big way, however, an X2 3800 for sub £100 is a bargain so :p

Ive just seen in this weeks offers a AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4800+
and it says thats the last of the x2s that britain will be getting so thats really made me think.

Should i get it at that once in a lifetime great offer as i will bound to notice a little performance in a few of my games, i really do want my system to last for as long as possible until ive got to make the move to vista and dx10 system.

Should my x1900xtx stretch its legs (not be bottlenecked) with the x1900xtx thus seeing a improvemnt in games.

I doubt you'll see that much of a difference in many games tbh and even though the deal is good compared to the original prices, Core 2 Duo isn't going to be getting more expensive, if anything with more motherboards on the way and the price premium dropping, it'll get a little cheaper. So.. not like you'll be stuck for options if you really do find yourself needing an upgrade later, and right now, fast single cores still do the business :)

Its easy to say its not worth it due to Conre as we all know Conroe Rocks. However if you are/want to keep you 939 rig alive foe a lot longer then the X2 is worth it.

As mentioned tho its a tough for a little more than that price a Conroe Board and chip could be brought then you could sell your 939 setup and fund the rest for Ram and have a Faster Conroe Setup.

i really do want to keep my 939 system as long as possible its my fave pc i ever had and would hate to get rid of it just yet :( :p

Theres nothing left for me to get for my pc to improve my gaming performance except maybe a soundcard......DOH! now ive got a choice of either buying:

x2 3800
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty FPS Edition

I dont think you will really see that much difference, not to justify the £200 spending.

I thought your system should be able to play most games on pretty high res anyway.

hopefully the cpu will come tuesday as its bank holiday.

I dont need a new monitor as i bought the vx922 19" about 3 months ago, and i dont need new graphics card as i have the connect3d x1900xtx, but a hard drive i dont need either still got about 17gb left :)

Ive just ran 3dmark05 and i got 11127 which is nice so ill run it again when my x2 x4800 is in my rig :)

Well all seems sweet mate and looks like it was due some dual core action. Im sure you will get a nice clock from the X2 aswell. ;)

i would love to overclock my 4800 to fx62 speeds but i dont know how, i watched a mate overclock my [email protected].

EDIT: just read an improved beginners guide and now i feel confident to overclock the x2 4800 :)

Nice move, duel core's make windows feel a lot faster. Nearly everyone Multi tasks, eg, burning, downloading, playing music, and browsing, I'm 100% sure you will enjoy the duel core.

Mate your be fine clocking and as you say reading the guides is the best way. Before long it wont feel like your have to overclock. your want to overclock. Its Soo much fun altho dont end up spending more time in the bios than games. :)

I took the plunge for a 4600 X2 cpu I've never looked back. Some games developers are now taking advantage of dual core games such as Quake 4 and Half Life 2: Episode 1 support dual cores.

I found that the improvements to frame rates are small but it does help keeping them more consistent. Also if you want to avoid that tedious yet essential task of virus scanning you can do this whilst playing a game so you don't have to wait ages.

Might be worth a memory upgrade, if you start doing twice as many tasks you'll need twice as much memory.

I like it and i think it works well.
