Thinking of getting an E8500 For OC'ing Spec me a Mobo and Mem

Just an update, after leaving it priming overnight at low voltage I opened up the taps today.

4.05ghz stable @ 1.30v idle 48degrees, load 67-68degrees (drops about 6-7 degrees if I take the side panel off) has been cranking orthos for the last 5 hrs without any complaints.

Only issue is what I've read to be called 'vdrop'. Under heavy load the vcore drops quite precipitously, you can hack (pencil mod) a fix for it, maybe I will later, but it just means you need to put the vcore up more than you really need to.

Anyway not going to push any harder than that, will tide me over until nahelem, ddr3 and the new nvidia architecture is out and cheap in 12-18 months time :)

Excellent, btw what psu you got?

i'd be well happy if i get 4ghz on air.

thanks again. i know what your saying , i might wait until then.

me little fx-60 is still ok for now. but am really tempted after this thread.

i'm due an update, soon.

hi try a 8500 and a formula extreme i have just tested a 1 for a customer the 8500 is running at 550x9 at 1.375v on single stage with corsair ddr3 1600@1750 the system is like a rock with plenty more to give

:rolleyes:Yes, of course it's running at 4.95ghz on 1.375Vcore.......................

one thing i did want to ask, is r you using a mach 2?, thats going to get you quite a boost more in cooling than my gigabyte galaxy cooling, isn't it?

A significant boost, yes. At the moment i am running a different E8500 from the one in my sig, at 4.8ghz with Auto=127.8% Vcore. Full load under dual Prime/Orthos gives a cpu temp of -21c. That is rock solid stable, and has been for the last six weeks 24/7.

That's why i cast doubt on roller's claim of 4.95ghz at 1.375Vcore, it is'nt going to happen and is complete tosh.
