Thinking of getting into archery.

Until a couple of years ago I used to do Field and Target Archery with a Yew Long Bow. I managed to work up to regular shooting with an 85lb @ 30 inches and event demonstration with a 100lb @ 30 inches bow (although for only 10 shots or so) but unfortunately wear and tear on my shoulders and neck thanks to the archery and playing Rugby as a hooker most weekends through out the winter meant I had to give it up :(

Both bows are mounted on my dining room wall with pride though as well as a quiver of 32 32" goose fletched bodkin headed arrows and the steel breast plate I used to punch holes in at demonstrations :D

I used to do archery, but had to stop as I just didn't have enough time to stay proficient. I've still got all my kit, so do hope to start up again.

As has already been said, I wouldn't bother trying to teach yourself as it really is a lot more complicated than it looks. I shot compound, which despite what people tell you, requires just as much skill as recurve. The margin for error is much smaller, and the X ring on the targets are smaller.

Bit of a thread necro here, but I've just started the GNAS course last Monday, and having some pretty good fun so far. Despite the fact that one arrow flew sideways across the hall, and 1 limb on a recurve bow shattered during the session, I'll be back :p

TheMightyTen - I'd love to see a photo of the bow, and that breastplate - sounds epic!
