so i think ive had just about enough of pc gaming as of today, the feeling has been building for a while, but today i got this after trying and failing to load the dx11 crysis 2 as it BSODd

the pics dont show it well, but the left monitor is all flickery and pale blue, at w7 splash screen and within windows with no 3d, its fine

before this happened the game crashed about a minute in, no issue with temps, was running stock volts, 850vcore and 1300MHz clock

latest version of afterburner with CF 6950s, im guess on of the cards is duff now :/

bottom line is im ending up taking more time to figure out how to play the game without actually even playing it, the enjoyment is being sapped, its times like this im definitely thinking of scrapping my pc, going for a HTPC and just buying a console,

im guessing im just annoyed at how £350 worth of gfx kit cant even play the game,.

so is the card duff?

Have fun with upscaled 600p, medium/low equivalent settings and being forced to use a gamepad.

Personally, I'd remove all overclocking software, re-install the latest drivers for gpu + motherboard, update and double check bios settings.

Then if it still didn't work I'd either head on over to the crysis 2 forums or actually play a game worth my time.

Irrelevant what you deem worth your precious time, the fact is it should be working when it isn't.

Here's a hint, consoles break aswell, ones that work also crash in games, so as per usual, its a truly ridiculous idea.

"oh no, it crashed, or it broke, or I have a faulty card, this never happens with consoles, I'm giving up PC's"

Problem is, Consoles both crash, break, look worse, probably quietish now but my 360 of the first type is painfully loud, and because half the gaming is done off disc, since they finally allowed to install games, the dvd drive is ridiculously loud, which essentially taints all my gaming on the console.

What happens when you buy a 360, and it breaks, its life, you replace it.

Is the card duff, how would we know, you haven't really said much, you've rebooted the once and posted? You've rebooted a dozen times, you've done a full power off, switch at the wall, unplugged the monitor cable, put the monitor cable in a different port, switch the cables around, rebooted and the problem is still there?

Other games working fine, Crysis non 3d working fine, has crysis with 3d ever worked fine before and its now today crashed after a minute after 3 months of playing it 10 hours a day?

Actually, it is. The section was about what I'd do in OP's shoes.

It remains that crysis 2 is a mainstream console game with typical poor EA support. The fact it took as long as it did to even get the DX11 patch show just how much they care.

What give up PC gaming, going console is like going back to the stoneage.

alx4, have you asked for help of the members of this forum to get your problem sorted?

But at least we got one unlike 95% of new PC releases that don't support DX10 let alone 11.

I think the OP would be silly going back to PC gaming however, it does depend on whether its only Crysis 2 causing the problems, or whether it has trouble in other games as well. If its other games, sounds like something could be wrong with the graphics card.

for me the worry is the way it crashed, and the faulty colours which happened on reboot, i dont mind the game being slow and trying to find the playable area. The startup gfx issue seems random, sometimes after a normal power on it seems to be there, and always on the same monitor [may switch the cables over]

I guess this is a problem thread, i didnt get any reply in the crysis 2 thread i started

Maybe its the inability to modify a console that appeals in these cases, theres nothing more than what you have to try for so you just get on and play. Also like has been said lack of pc support for console ports maybe jumping ship should be considered?

The main reason i got the PC was for games like civ, Starcraft, c and c, not many good ones like that anymore, i would seriously miss these but would always be able to play the ones i have already

im guessing consoles wouldnt lok to good on the u2711 tho

^
also its not just crysis but the games that push the limits, metro as well, i cant seem to help myself wanting it on ultra or max, another thing consoles would remove, i guess i feel the hardware i have should be capable of it, its not like the gfx hardware is cheap.

oh and yes atm its a lot of frustration!

But they'll look **** on the consoles? Rather than fretting about running at full settings on every game, how about you just turn some of the settings down a smidge? Metro and Crysis both look good on one setting down from highest, or even try running them at 1920x1080 and sitting further back.

Crossfire/dual card = hell
single card = heaven

Why cant ppl get this,,ARRRHHHH. I bought my 6950 a few months back and its been no trouble, same goes for my 3870 I had before the 6950. Sell both 6970s and get a GTX580, if you want to run everything maxed out without the probs. Or use 1 6970 and turn down settings a bit.

i think ive definitely learnt this and will not be going down the dual card path again!

if im going to go down to 1080 i think i will definitely be going back to single card, most frustrating is how others with the same hardware or less get better results, again, also frustrating

Have you actually tried the game with just one 6970? see if it BSOD's still?

The only reason I've switched to Nvidia is because I'm fedup of driver issues with AMD/ATI, at least all my games work now. :)

What a load of rubbish! So you've had problems and that means everybody who hasn't should dump CF\Sli for a single card. As many folks have problems with single card setups as dual and many many more folks dont have any problems at all! You all blame bad drivers and yet I and many others use these same drivers with no problems at all. I personally dont buy into this.

Funny I previously had a CF setup and had no probs with Amd drivers and now I have an nvidia card and have no problems either. I've always flitted back and forward between gpu providers and if and when I've had a problem its usually been of my own doing.:)

I have to disagree.

Over the years I've had Nvidia 8800 GTX's in SLI and ATI HD 4870's and HD 6850's in Crossfire.

I've never had any major problems.

I went from 2 6950's to a single 580. Probably won't ever do crossfire unless they fix it properly again. Might try SLi, as 2 580's is so tempting :)

I say,,,,,,, keep things simple and less will go wrong... Common sense really, but saying that I wouldn't mind trying crossfire or sli again at some point. Games will will run impressively, but prob come with the headaches again. Yeah you can deal with probs at the start but after that it starts getting tedious and you end up wanting to put a sledge hammer through the pc(as a member on here did smash up his highend pc, due to multi gpu cards)
