Thinking of going 1440p how much extra strain on gpu?

I used whatever was posted at the time by Gregster, so probably a techpowerup review. They run their test benches with pretty low clocked CPUs.

Heaven is also very GPU demanding at 1080, so i was surprised by only 75% more demanding instead of a more linear performance requirement.

I'll have to test 1080 vs 1440 tomorrow, pretty sure my monitor is still upstairs gathering dust :D I'll be able to run my CPU at a high clock to avoid as best possible any bottleneck.

Heaven is very demanding on GPUs but what is interesting about the runs I did was the 1600p result, it is slightly better than could be predicted. If you double the pixels going from 1080 to 1600p then the result at 1600p should be half what it is at 1080p. I think this is due to the lower number of frames @1600p so the less number of times the GPU has to communicate with the CPU resulting in a slightly higher score than expected. Well that's my theory anyway.:D

Am playing Planetside 2 at 3600x1920 at High Settings on a 6970 2GB and have the same FPS as I did at 1080p. My only problem is that am held back by my CPU.

You shouldn't have any problems, just keep AA/AF and that stuff off.

Hmmm after reading around and on here it really does seem to me that the biggest difference when getting 1440p is the out of game experience aka browsing and work related matters really do benefit the higher res but from what I read it makes a pretty small difference when in game which is pretty much all I use my pc for bar a little browsing that teamed up with the extra hit the gpu takes (upgrading will come sooner because of this) I'm really not sure it's worth it tbh.

Anyone care to enlighten me or have a I stumbled on a fairly truthful conclusion?

Grab yourself another HD 7950 and a 1600p monitor, much better for gaming on.

I could never go back to 1080p.:)

well its like a TV, the bigger it is the tendency is to be more immersive.

I had an Asus VW266H 26" 1920x1200 which I upgraded to Asus PB278Q 27" 2560x1440 3 weeks ago and I do not regret it at all. The difference in clearity and the better pixel density makes gaming so much more immersive - and going from a TN planel to an Super-PLS (or IPS for that matter) is definetely worth it. So much better viewing angles. I discover details in games I never even realized before.

Remember that eventhough you have a native resolution of 2560x1440 you can still play games at 1920x1080 if needed ! the interpolation downwards on this screen is outstanding.

I upgraded to Asus PB278Q and I agree with you mate its absolutely awesome. Even websites look better. OCUK webpage is even more tempting :D

If you have enough funds buy Asus PB278Q it is amazing quality monitor once you to optimal settings.

I bought 780 with it so cant really say how much more resources it is using on 1440p.
