Thinking of going back to XP

For me there aren't even drivers for all my hardware for Vista. Until this is sorted I won't be upgrading.
i`d say if there isnt any drivers for your hardware by now, then there isnt going to be any, after all vista has been out over a year now

I have no idea why. I just like having a fresh install of XP, which has been tweaked and stripped.

I like Vista. I like the interface and the speed & reliability.

In XP I like the fact that it uses next to nothing and seems quite efficient.

I like love the classic interface. As much as I like Aero I don't think anything can compare to XP's classic UI.

Dammit!

i`ll stick with vista
as for XP being efficient and uses next to nothing, it actually wastes resources, it has ram just sitting there doing nothing were vista uses more of it, till its needed.
now we have SP1 vista is even better

Agreed with the 2 above posters. I actually feel almost like shaking in a corner at the thought of using XP for any length of time now.

Using Vista on both home and work systems, I even nuked my XP partion because I couldn't really find any problems with any software I use with VIsta 64.

+ 1

its your call

but you have said you do like Vista so why not dual boot or run one of the OS under some sort of Virtual Machine ?

i have XP running in Virtual box on my Vista x64 install for the rare times i need XP

Cheers guys. Vista is very smooth and quick. It's just I like XP.

Anyways, will probably keep Vista on.

Oh and how can games be significantly faster in Vista? They'll still be limited by the graphics cards raw power :/

Nobody in the thread has said that games run significantly faster under Vista?

If a particular game *does* run faster on either OS, it's due to the graphics drivers.. XP has much more mature drivers, so in some games, it will have better performance.. but then again, some games (like Assassins Creed) will be faster under Vista (assuming you have a DX10 card)

:)

Thanks for proving my point! Shouldn't a newer OS comfortably beat an old OS, rather than *just* matching it?

In reference to GFX performance :)

Having moved on from Windows98 to XP and know to Vista I wouldn't go back to XP it just seems dated .. I just like to keep up Ive also replaced the kids PC with it another thing i like is its user friendliness self maintenance in a nut shell i find Vista looks after it self

Try a real OS... get linux...

MS coppied the 'aero' style window system from linux's KDE... KDE has been around donkies years.... if you like vista, you'd love linux...

Who cares where it stole it from. Most people would hate linux it's complicated and not user friendly. Although it is getting better. But I suppose that's a tottaly different argument to this thread.

*edit* - I'm not trying to provoke a flame war - as I've said, I will end up with Vista eventually, but it still needs a lot of tweaking. But for me personally, XP is still the best option - a good Vista install seems to be as much about luck as technical expertise or good user practice.

How am I proving your point ? I am demonstrating that there is no performance difference between the 2 in gaming, which you said that vista wasn't as good in gaming. It is basically the same.

There is no point in not having Vista, you are just reducing the system security, having less features and having a less pretty desktop to look at.

*EDIT*

Even things such as the GPU helping with desktop drawing (awesome for those who use creative software) running certain programs in a sandbox, better memory and disk management, reworked network stack, more inbuilt security, heck even little things like rendering thumbnail previews better in the Explorer (I actually had a folder of JPG's that XP would not show thumbnails too, they just appeared in random colors, and in Vista they show perfectly). Even the whole OS is better designed to take better advantage of dual core tech.

XP from 98 had just as many people complaining, and now those same people are crying over Vista from XP :/

I'm going to keep vista on. It is nice and quick and looks good.

I was watching my mum's partner do something on his PC and it just seemed slower (than Vista) - and he has a good PC.

I've been on Vista since the weekend and so far, it is great - apart from Stupid Nvidia not releasing an updated driver for my 7900GS on my laptop. A modded driver is now at work and it's much better but not as good compared to XP's matured driver - still get the occasional glitch and flickering.
