Why cant you just get the clear lights but not change the bumpers and styling of the car?

The idea of the clear lights is (to my mind, correct me if I'm missing something!) to make the car look like all of the later models with clear lights.

Alas, to do the mod properly on my particular car, i.e. to make it look just like the later model, is rediculously expensive. Due as I've said, to the many different parts.

To my eyes, I can (and have) spotted many early e38's that have clear indicators, but, in the wrong design.

Its very picky I certainly agree, but, I'm not convinced early cars with clear indicators look anything like as good as the later ones with the re-design.

Its the later look I'd really like, if I could achieve that for £240 odd I would'nt have posted, it would have been done when I bought the car! Sadly, it can't.

By fitting clear lenses to my earlier car, I achieve nothing other than a change of colour, the car, despite its private plate, is still obviously a <2000 model to anybody who knows his BMW's therefore I lose some orange for £240 but gain nothing in terms of really making my car look newer,in comparison which it would'nt.

Comes down to if your going to do something, do it properly, or, not at all.

Its looking like the audio upgrade..... :o

And Yes! I know with hindsight, perhaps I should have got a later facelift model !!! :o  :D

IMO its not about making the car look newer, its about making the car look better :)
If i was you i would just change the oranage plastic for clear plastic and leave the bumpers as they are.

I would change the orange lights on an E30 if i had one aswell, I just dont have one to do so.
When i get a car(very soon i hope because mums not liking me taking hers :p ) i will be removing the orange as soon as i can :)

Thats just me though :)

The bumpers are the same iirc, its the shape of the headlights and indicators that are different on the facelifted e38 (hence the different front wing design) which gives the earlier models upgraded with clear lights a wrong / chav look ,which, I'm wanting to avoid.

And thats just me I suppose! :o :)

My Dads e39 whilst having re-styled front lights still looks ,to me, wrong.

Only becuase he has the pre-facelift front bumper and non-colour-coded rubbing strips. Thats the difference between a pre and post facelift SE - different front bumper, colour coded rubbing strips, CELIS rear lights (Interchangeable with some wiring fiddling) and angel eyes, plus the grille - which itself is 40 quid..

The Sports are even easier - the only difference is the front and rear lights and kidney grille.

Wings etc all the same.

do the lights, orange makes any car look old

it really isn't that exspensive, I want to add the LED rears to mine as that is the only noticable difference between mine and a 06 one (when I fit my privae plate), but the rears with matching boot lights pus LCM reflash is £450-500 by BMW but as my car is an early 01 my LCM can't be flashed so need a new wone of those which another £200+ :(
