Hi Guys

As above really, I'll have 120K to spend on a 3 bed place..

As I currently live in Stevenage (Hertfordshire) and have limited or no knowlegde of the area can anyone that lives there or there aboutS point out the good and bad area's please?

Many thanks

Mart

Yes Cheshire looks good, hope my budget is up to it?

I'm shocked at what 120K can get you up there, I pid 128K for a reasonable 2 bedroom flat in a small village a few months ago down here....

They've moved the boundaries for Cheshire again, technically Altrincham and Sale are now Greater Manchester, but I think that's just to up the percentiles in Manchester and even out the massive amounts of grotty bits.

120K will not buy much in the best areas. A three bed terraced house is a possible or even maybe a small semi detached in some of the better areas.

As has been said the southern suburbs or nearby Cheshire towns and villages are probably best. I lived for a few years in Culcheth near to Leigh in Lancashire which is to the north west of Warrington and quite a good location. Property may be slightly overpriced due to demand. Much of the housing was originally built for the expansion of the Atomic Energy authority in the late 50's early 60's now predominantly privately owned.

Have a look at Lymm. Its a lovely little village just on the outskirts of Warrington. Not too sure what the property prices are like there though.

South Warrington is your best bet. I grew up in Appleton. Quite a nice area.

Knutsford, Hatton, Daresbury, Appleton, Stretton, Lymm, Grappenhall are all nice places to live.

I think Sale is still Cheshire, the schools certainly are anyway.

If you want to go further down, Little leigh, Tarporley, Holmeschapel, Alderley Edge, Wilmslow, Lower Peover, Frodsham are all nice as well, albeit a little pricey.

If you think that's not much for the money try living darn sarf where you get even less for that amount.

Not that I'm bitter.

At all.

FWIW, as a point of reference, 5 years ago we bought a 3 bed semi with an extended kitchen and (pointless) conservatory in Atherton, which is on the other side of Leigh to Warrington, about half an hour from Warrington itself, and it cost us £147k. I think it's now valued at more like £130k.
