That P5K is the mainstream / part-enthusiast board... kinda the one in the middle, not the budget one but not the expensive advanced one.

I would drop the OcUK 8500 RAM and get the OCZ Platinum XTC PC2-6400 on "This Week Only", but be quick as that offer finishes around lunchtime. The OCZ ram will be better and will hit 1000 MHz and be suitable for an overclock for you. Plus the OCZ is a lifetime warranty, whereas the OcUK stuff is just 1 year. I'd imagine you'll get a nice overclock from those parts, guess it depends on your cooling mostly and a little bit of luck with the chip in that you don't get a hot cpu.

cheers for that, didnt notice that ram

would you say the abit ip35 pro would be a better board then?

Noticed the abit has some weird settings in the bios lol.

Whats the best asus p5k board to go for then?

Only if you need the features, otherwise it's just the board below it (regular IP35)... features for the Pro include LED POST codes, CMOS reset switch, uGuru chip for easier overclocking. If you aren't really bothered about them then just get a lower mainstream model like the DS3P, P5K or the IP35 regular (not the IP35-E).

Aye that it probably the uGuru stuff which is only available on the pro model. It's very in depth and really is excellent but a bit too much if you really aren't heavily in to overclocking.

The P5KC, it's another mainstream board and excellent for the price. The best board is going to be the P5K3 Deluxe but comes with a £165 price tag so I'd not bother.

Being so close to the new "This Week Only" offers I'd be very tempted to wait until this afternoon and see what's on offer. They normally always have some RAM on offer so I wouldn't worry there as you'll still be able to get some cheap but good RAM, but mainly as they might have some other bits on This Week Only - like they had the Abit IP35 Pro on a few weeks ago for £119 which was an excellent price, might have something like that for the DS3P or P5K so I'd wait a few hours and see what appears.

Lol oh well, already hit the buy button now, i know gibbo is normally pretty good if you buy something then it appears on the this week offer cheaper within a couple of days.

So i have gone with

Q6600 Go
Abit IP35 Pro - I intend to o/c as far as i can lol
OCZ Plat XTC pc2-6400 4gb in total
Thermalright HR-03-PLUS (8800 GTX) VGA Cooler

Will see how it goes. will be here tomorrow lol
