Thinking of picking up a 980Ti but concerned my 2500k will hold me back too much

There's always something newer and fatter on the horizon. Skylake is looking to be incremental, and when that's out there'll be a die shrink just about on the gpu horizon :p

Very true :D but, as I mentioned, apart from the horrendous noise from my reference 290, my 2500k that's clocked the same as OP's is holding up well in the latest games!

Thank god for noise cancelling headphones!

Was the EVGA ACX 2.0 super clock a good choice?

Don't know.

That cooler was reportedly decent enough on the 980, but that was a lower power card which runs a lot cooler than the 980 ti.

You would have to wait on reviews to find out, providing you can find any that don't just tell it's readers a lot of bs, either that or just suck it and see.

If I go down the 980 ti route, I will be looking at the EVGA Hybrid for guaranteed low noise and low temps, but I imagine that quite a lot of people will have the same idea...might be a hard card to get hold off....have seen it become 'fleetingly' available on certain sites on and since launch day.

EVGA Superclock ACX 980 ti is available at a well known retailer at the moment actually, stock going down fast though.....

.....was thinking about biting but found a review in Dutch, which states that the fan noise under load is indeed a bit loud......47dB (and we all know that it will be louder than that in reality)....

.......so for me, it is going to have to be the Hybrid or nowt.

You won't see any noticable improvement in "upgrading" the CPU. You will see a FAR bigger gain with a 980ti.

I benched a new i7 in my work PC against my 2600k @ 4.6ghz and my 2600k still scores higher :P
