Hi Guys,

I am thinking of going back to WoW, I played it a few years ago but never really got into it and didn't really get past level 10.

Now summers over I want to get into a game and thought this might be a good option.

Just wanted a few tips like:

What is the best server to go on, I lean towards the PVE side of things.

Where is the best place to get all the patches as it going to take me hours to update.

Any any other bits of advice you would like to offer :p

Hayley

Play Argent Dawn EU. PVE focussed and holds the last of the remaining non-idiots in the WOW world. Don't worry about patches. Use the WoW downloader. Stick it on before going to bed and you should be ready to roll by the time you get it up.

Lastly.

Don't.

Do it - play casually, see the sights, have a couple of beers or a glass of wine whilst doing it and enjoy yourself.

Dont get hooked if you can avoid it and dont forget the real world.

Really, whats so bad about it??

I have played MMO's in the past (Vanguard, Warhammer Online) so know what I am letting myself in for and only really want to play casually and am pretty sure I wont get obsessed with it.

the community stinks now imo, big reason why ive left the game.
shadowsong is a half decent server and for chuff sake stay away from teh first server, aerie peak is awful :p

Do it.

and get to level 80 before the new expansion comes out.

Don't know about server, that's something you should research really.

People say that torrenting the patches is faster but I usually just use the blizzard downloader.

Argent Dawn EU.

+1 To this, the last bastion of decent WoW players with more than half a brain, and communication skills above that of the animial kingdom.........last i played it had a decent ping and no wait time at peak so a good choice.

And also...dont do it.. :p

Don't, not because of the no lifer arguments (pot kettle black on here anyway) but because there are MUCH better MMOs out there, why not check out the F2P, EQ2X, DDO, LOTRO, or the P2P versions of all of the above, plus the likes of AoC, WAR, AION are all a much better proposition than WoW, if you have your heart set on WoW, I'd wait till Cataclysm releases because with it they are totally revamping the lower levels, and that is deffo worth waiting for if you don't already have a character at max level

I really enjoyed my time on WoW - definately one of the all-time great games, and although I enjoyed Warhammer Online's RvR and Public Quests - it absolutely paled in comparison to Blizzard's masterpiece.

I only played occasionally, getting my main character to Lvl.70 over the course of a year (on-off subbing). Managed to see a lot of Quests, some in groups and a couple of Dungeons.

Like many things if you let it, it can become unhealthy, but equally so can most gaming.

Bloodhoof PVE was my server - again fine. I installed from BC or WoTLK and let the ingame updater patch the game. You can get the full client from the official site.

K thanks for the info although most of you seem to think I should stay clear! I only intend to play it when I have some time on my hands and it seems less hard core than games like Aion. (which I have tried and was too time consuming). I may not even like it as when I played a few years back the community just didn't feel right.

I did consider going back to WAR but I have a lv 50 avatar and wasn't too impressed by the end game. If they released an expansion with new content and levels I would be back there.

There's lots of different arguments when it comes to WoW.
Like most MMOs, I have to say if you're playing, you need to play hardcore to get the experience. This is the wrong time to start playing too, levelling up in the old game is a little dated now, which is why they're re-doing it in cataclysm, and then just as you reach this patches level cap, the new one'll come out and you'll have wasted time gearing.

The quality of gear is going to jump hugely from the first items in Cataclysm, it did from Classic to Burning Crusade, and again with Burning Crusade to WotLK, so even if you get the highest end game gear currently (Which'll take a long time) - You'll be using the first quest greens you get in cataclysm because of better stats.

All in all, Casual WoW = No. Sorry. :L
I've tried casual and I got about as far as you, level 10-15 ish. If you level FAST, you enjoy it a little more, example, I recently levelled from 1-80 in a month, which is a lot of play time, but now I'm level 80, bored as hell and not bothering to play anymore. As it is now, the current expansions end-game content is a been-there, done that. And the lack of new players on WoW currently means there are no fresh groups to do this end-game stuff.

Raventu :)
