Thinking of playing WoW... advice please

Really? Because after playing a while as bear in decent gear doing 80 heroics, I've found most groups get really annoyed having a druid tank, as the bear lacks some decent aggro-holding skills for certain pulls here and there.
This has even been when I've not been tanking and another druid has. I've also never been in a 70 or 80 raid group that picks a druid as the tank, in favour of another tank class like paladin or warrior. In fact, every ICC raid I've seen has chosen pally tank always. Never been offered or never seen anyone else offered ;p.

Ah well, I still wouldn't suggest it as bear. Sure, easy raids..but I don't see why so many people say this.

Even as DPS only, it takes a maximum of an hour to get into a dungeon at almost any level. What's the problem with this? If you played before the dungeon finder...it would take you 6-7 hours standing in a city asking for a group as any of the dungeon triangle. Also, with dungeon finder you can always do some quests or make some gold whilst you're waiting to join. I did.

I've seen requests for Druid tanks on my server (and they are always asking to do the lasts). I'm not at ICC yet though :(.

DO IT!! DO IT!!!

It the best MMO out there. Being playing EQ2X (EQ2 F2P) while waiting for Cataclysm to hit. While it good it not a slick as WoW.

It is a good game.

It is also the type of game that is designed to keep you playing more and more, but to be honest if you have almost any measure of self control you will be fine and find a level of playtime that is comfortable for you.

If you decide to play research the class you want to play and the different races as you dont want to get to lvl 80 and think "oh I wish I was a gnome so I could have bla bla racial.

Experiment to lvl 20 with each class as by that lvl you should know what you want to do with your character in the game and you havnt gone too far to make you think "i hate this character but it took me so long to get to this lvl I dont want to start again" By getting to lvl 20 you will only really have experianced solo play as instances don't really start until lvl 20+.

Every class type is needed but healers and tanks are the rarer breed and makes using the dungeon finder much faster than being a damage dealer as servers are now merged in battlgrounds and instances there will be like 800 dps in que and only 300tanks and 280 healers onviously a lot of those DPS will be stuck in the que for a lot longer than the healer who logged on 2 mins ago and joined the que ;p.

Servers are difficult to choose I played on Burning legion for a long time the server was good but ques can get long when new content is added. As for picking a server you have to think what you want from that server example.

Is the server old? If it is most the players have been there a long time = all know eachother not much room for new people unless they have friends there already. Also most good guilds don't recruit only the new guilds that will raid a bit a split up recruit.

Do you mind foreign languages spamming all the channels? if you do you should find a server highly populated by your nationality which can be hard.

Patches from the downloader is easiest takes about a day to get fully patched from a fresh install but if you have friends close by you could copy the patches from their computers.

hope this was helpful :)

Wow is a good game and if you haven't experienced it to 80 with some raid content your missing out to be fair. However, if I was in your position I'd wait for cataclysm to launch and then start fresh on the game. Will keep your enjoyment of the game going for a long time as you'd be at the same stage as everyone else from day 1.

Hi Guys,

I am thinking of going back to WoW, I played it a few years ago but never really got into it and didn't really get past level 10.

Now summers over I want to get into a game and thought this might be a good option.

Just wanted a few tips like:

What is the best server to go on, I lean towards the PVE side of things.

Where is the best place to get all the patches as it going to take me hours to update.

Any any other bits of advice you would like to offer :p

Hayley

I asked the exact same thing on my guilds forum other day and got the below as a reply hope it helps abit

Can't really gimp things RF style but some professions like mining are a ballache to go back to do if all the way from 0 -450 if you change into that prof. later on - it's waaaaaay easier to lvl it as you quest. It'll just keep ticking along nicely. If you lvl to 80 using only swords, but then get a fancy mace to use, then chances are your mace skill would be 0 of 450 so you would have to go back to raise that skill, but it's not a big deal really and certainly not as hard as in RF to fix.

Get 2 main profs early on, these can be either both gathering such as mining and herbalism or crafting such as Jewelcrafting or Leatherworking. Some profs kinda go hand in hand, like mining + blacksmithing or mining + jewelcrafting, since the ore from mining is smelted into bars for blacksmithing or refined to get gems to cut into jewels for jewelcrafting. So it may be wise to take one gathering and one crafting although if you wanna make cash, both gathering would be good.
Get all three secondaries too - fishing, cooking and first aid. You can catch the fish to make the food to raise your skills so it costs **** all, and you also get access to nice buffs from the foods you learn, almost like fishing for OD's in a way
So yeah, get the profs. early on and they'll level up easily using the mats and stuff you collect as you quest.

Here's a site with guides for profs.- http://www.wow-professions.com/

Get Curse client and then install Questhelper to start with. The fastest way to level really is questing, not grinding the same mob over and over for hours. The thing is, WoW is so ****ing big that it's easy to get lost and go in circles for ages. Questhelper makes all that go away You can also gain EXP in Battle Grounds now too, so it's a good idea to use the BG tool ASAP, think it's lvl 10 that it becomes available.
You'll do alright EXPwise, getting boosted through instances to complete quests from there also.

Items and gear have descriptions in coloured writing (shocker). If it's grey, bin it/vendor it. Greens are the average basic stuff. Blues are a step up and are quite decent normally. Purples are the top end and you wanna hang onto those.
There's a buyback tab at vendors, so if you accidentally vendor the weapon you'd farmed instances for weeks trying to get, you can buy it back as long as you haven't logged out since you sold it.
