Thinking of replacing my two existing TFT's: Whats available for around £150

I've had two monitors for a while as I purchased on to use as a PC display then a 2nd to use as a Xbox display. Ones I have now are a LG L226WTQ and a Asus VH226.

I'm looking at maybe 24", must have DVI and VGA (although i expect you'd be pressed to find one without both these days). I'm not against moving down a size if I brings a much better display but would like to go to 24" then I can class buying new as 'an upgrade' :)

Needs to be good for general PC use, gaming and watching video/movies...

What option should I be looking at around the £150 mark?? A lot has moved on since I bought these two. If I opt to replace them both, are my existing two worth anything 2nd hand??

You could get this 24in 1080p monitor for £140. The image quality won't be much better than your existing monitors, but it is a bit bigger.

If you want better image quality then have a hunt around for a refurbished (or good quality 2nd hand) Dell 2209WA. It's no bigger than what you already have, but the image quality is in a different league since it uses a true 8bit E-IPS panel.

The Benq doesn't look too bad that for the money, was keen to get 1920x1080 if its a 16:9 screen as i'm using 1680x1050 on my LG and 1920x1080 on the Asus - quite like the little extra 1920 gives you.

I'm not upset with the quality I have to be honest so althought it would be nice if it fits the budget, I'm happy to stay on the quality I have to get the little larger (and also same) screens.

If you get one and it's not suitable, you can always DSR it within 7 days. It will cost you the return postage, but a screen is quite a personal thing.

There's also an LG and a Samsung for £10 either side of your budget in the 23" monitor section, but I have no idea if they're any good.

That LG doesn't look too bad but i'm not sure about its funky power button thing - I'm a big fan of a real button to press :)

Think I'll have to have a look over the listings and just dig up some reviews. I'd love to be able to afford the Dell offerings but just simply out my budget. iiyama and LG have always been good to me so i'll see what happens.

Seems I won't be trying one of those monitors as quickly as i had hoped. OcUK wont accept delivery to non-confirmed paypal addresses and I won't pay £10 to delivery to an address where I know I'm not going to be in so gotta wait now :(

That sucks

I've never had to have anything confirmed through PayPal. I just created an account and put my card and shipping details in. Never had a problem.

Was looking forward to hearing about this monitor. My dad had an Iiyama CRT years ago that was incredible. I've always wondered how their LCDs fare.

We use iiyama kit at work, nothing fancy or top end just 19" screens for desktop but they are always a decent build quality and great for general desktop use.

I'm keen to see how this 24" fairs for gaming performance as FPS it my main thing

Result!!

I called OcUK to be firmly told under no conditions known to man would they ever ship to a non-paypal verified address (shame as it may be a deciding factor in future purchases)...

so I rang the courier company depot in sheffield and a very nice chap said they have to attempt delivery but they give a 1 hour window so hopefully it will get delivered around 11:00-13:00 so i can use the hour as lunch to go home and wait - and failing that they will redirect it to the sheffield branch for collection so worse case I have a 15min drive to pick it up so I can live with that.

Hopefully I'll get it delivered tomorrow :)

Gutted!!

Well it's arrived and overall I'm pretty happy with it but unfortunately it has a bright green stuck pixel bang in the centre of the screen. Unfortunately it's too bright to ignore so I'm going to give it the evening just in case it becomes instock on it's own as I have had that happen in the past, then tomorrow if it's no better I'll be returning it.

They seem nice monitors jut needs color setting up right and initial looks at ghosting make it seem ok for gps gaming.

Really gutted it's got a stuckie tho :(

Damn, that is a shame :(

Hopefully the pixel exercises sort it out.

If not, then it sounds like DSR time.

Are you planning to go for the same one again?

If you are interested in any alternatives, then I would suggest the U2311H (on a deal this week). It's a bit more expensive and a bit smaller - but it uses a high quality E-IPS panel (the OCUK uses a TN) and comes with a warranty which gives you a next working day replacement if you have a single stuck pixel. Here is an in-depth review of the U2311H.

Not sure to be honest, there isn't really anything wrong with the LG screen I have now but at the price the iiyama was an attractive option to buy two which wouldn't be an option with the Dell. However I might look at just one Dell and keep the LG until i can afford to get another.

Once I've ran a few games and movies etc on it I'll see what i think and if i'm happy i might risk another one.

Well having read over a fair few reviews for the U2311H I've decided to take the plunge and give it a go.

I don't do a massive amount of gaming so if there is a little ghosting I'm sure i'll live with it ok and I might yet keep my LG screen (not sure)... Dell should arrive tomorrow

I've contacted OcUK about the return so although i've always been a iiyama fan it look like they won't be my main tft provider at home :)

Shame about the pixel :(

Heard great things about the Dell. Even considering putting my 3D Asus on the MM and getting one. After using this though, I do notice AG coating quite a lot :/

Would you mind letting me know how aggressive the coating actually is? :D

Sure. I've received my order notification for dispatch so should come tomorrow sometime, and i've got my RMA confirmation so i'll be able to return the iiyama tomorrow.
