Thinking of starting WOW

I've been playing since about novemeber andi'm still at 75 with my Dwarf Hunter, taking my time to get to 80 so i know my character well :D

After that i'm gonna level a Priest :D

The hardest thing is gonna be finding a class you want to play, there is lots to choose from.

Any reason why?

I have a lvl 70 Night Elf (Nelf) Rogue on Alliance (started him in 2005) and a lvl 72 Blood Elf (Belf) Warlock (started 6 weeks ago) on Horde on the Aszune server. All throughout the game, regardless of your faction, you will need gold (money) to buy skills and equipment. In order to make this gold you will need to utilise the auction house (AH) and your trade skills. In my experience, the AH on alliance is a bustling centre of commerce and you will find it easy to sell your wares on there. On Horde the AH is not all that active by comparison. It really depends on the realm you choose but consider that this is pretty much the case on all realms.

In a nutshell, you will find it easier to get to 80 playing on alliance because the economy is in your favour. It will be a greater challenge if you are horde.

You will perhaps not notice this until you hit lvl 70 and want to buy a flying mount, which needs the artisan riding skill costing 5000g and the mount to go with it for 2000g (unless you have a trade skill that allows you to make your own for less).

Controversially, I have found that players on horde are generally of a higher skill level than on alliance, but both sides have their noobs and neither side is 'perfect'. You should also consider the racial attributes associated with each faction. You may like the idea of playing an undead character that can be immune to fear or like being a tiny little gnome who can escape from snares and similar effects.

Yeah definately. Personally I'm an Altoholic, I've got one of everything. :o

Could just be your server mate. EU-Aszune has 10,314 Allaince Players and only 1,518 Horde, so the auction house being massively busier isnt really surprising!

I'm on Shattered Halls, 4,392 Horde, and the AH is very busy.

WoW is the worst game to install ever.

Since my post above I began installing the game. Installed WoW fine, took HOURS and HOURS to patch. Then went in install BC and it died giving an error, something about the regions I think. So was looking for a fix and thought sod it. Beginning from fresh. WoW > BC > Patches.

:(

I was out for 3 hours or so while a patch was downloading, but still :(

The best servers for mature players are RPPVP.
Most people just see the RP part and skip past it. Normal PVP and PVE servers absolutely suck for the most part. Most of the players on both horde and alliance are just as immature as each other.

How much actual RPing goes on on an RP server? Cause I'm not sure I should roll on one if I have no intention of RPing. :o

You should have just used the trial client from the wow site, installs it all you just upgrade your account with all the keys, me and my friend have started again on a brand new server Saurfang, really busy server, losts of people around come check us out, I am called Goberkain, we are on Alliance side.

I recently went back and I am really enjoying it. It fits perfectly around my work (Yes AROUND and not INSTEAD lol). I like a few others am taking my time and leveling a couple of characters slowly.

I find it funny how much people spend on the auctions tho. L22 2H Weapon, nothing special other than it blue and going for 70 gold lol Why would you spend that?

Anyway for those with no will power to walk away I wouldnt recommend it, but those with a little sense and just want to enjoy some gaming with others I think it has to out there with the top games ever made.

Enjoy it and try not to get into the habbit of just trying to reach L80

This, just play for fun, it's a game! It took me years to get my first character (NE Druid) to 80. The difference for me was that I took my time, and actually enjoyed leveling *shock*.

Although, because I'm a super casual player I'm finding it hard to start raiding so I'm thinking of re-rolling. Is there any OC guild around somewhere? or a group that fancy leveling together?

Im on argent dawn (might be spelt wrong)

My main is a warlock (demondog L30) and I have a druid (thegri L24)

I have some lower level ones, under L10 if you fancy some casual gaming.

A few points to make on this.

1. You do not need to use to AH, EVER, using the AH at low levels is fine but most people I know end up spending everything they have on crappy greens and never being able to afford mounts and stuff they actualy need.

2. the AH is equal, saying ones better than the other is like saying one faction is better than the other, i.e utter bull.

3. Epic flying mount costs 200g, not 2000g.

My advice:

Pick trade skills that are useful for leveling, such as on a warrior take mining and Blacksmithing to make armor and weapons that are better than quest rewards.

Sell quest rewards.

Never use the AH for armor/weapons unless it will last you AT LEAST 10 levels, and even then only from lv40, you'll level too quickly before this for anything to be worth buying.

Hmmm, I would disagree with this point. Blacksmithing is fairly useless for making armour for levelling, the stuff is expensive to make (in terms of materials, as you could sell them for a lot more) and you'll just spend ages getting all the materials together for making them, time which could be much better spent doing other things. Blacksmithing in general is just horrible to level up. :(

Was easy enough for me, loved having it on my warrior.

Gathering professions are good for leveling. I am also finding that tailoring is good for some extra cash.

With my druid I went with Leather working and skinning. I have a few blue patterns that I can easily grind the materials and then sell for a nice profit. Usually undercut the market and sell for 10g a shot.

As for mounts, I love my warlock, just reached L30 and was bracing myself for the outlay of money for training and mount. Cost me 8s to learn the summon :D

Anyone know if the epic mount is a quest or do you learn that as well?

Both. :p

As I understand it, you can do the quest (although it is a chain, and reasonably long) to get the mount at level 60. If you are doing this you will need some people to help you with the final part (involves a dungeon). You will also need to get a selection of materials, which may prove a bit more difficult now because they are old-world items which people tend not to get these days.

Alternatively, you can simply learn the spell from a trainer at level 61.

The decision is yours!

Mmm tough choice lol

Cowards way out seems the most likely option ;)

Unless it costs 4k gold to learn lol

Another option would be to just learn the same 'Journeyman' riding skill as everyone else (costs 480g if you are exalted with your race's faction, then add another 70/80 for a mount, can't remember the exact cost) who hits 60 and buy a regular epic land mount, then if you want the dreadsteed (which I probably would!) you can buy that when you hit 61.
