Thinking of switching from Intel to AMD

The 7850

The i5 2500k was 24/7 clock @ 4.8 the i7 3820 was around the same speed my AMD is 24/7 clocked @ 5Ghz altho it was run at stock and still showed no difference in wow or swtor.
Only thing that has changed is the Ram quad in the i7

LOL facts and figures from thin air in true Intel fashion ! you gotta love it.

If you think an I5 2500k can beat a 8320 or 8350 then please to kindly stop by the Cinebench R15 thread and prove it. When you're done doing that you can stop by the 3dmark Firestrike thread in the CPU forum too.

I'll see a 2500k beat a properly supported 8320 when I see a elephant fly.

Ill save him the trouble

I do love playing Firestike and Cinebench.

In WoW, you won't be at the GPU bottleneck, it's lightly threaded, core for core performance counts, there's a factual difference in performance figures in the favour of the Intel.
I know when I played SWTOR, my GPU wasn't maxing out, definitely CPU bound there, so again, no idea why you didn't see a difference.

Tbh i think its smoother game play on the AMD.I use RivaTuner for the fps in game and thats how i know the fps is almost the same across all 3

Was just saying too the wife how much i like this new pc over my last 2 that i had and it cost a lot less than the i7 but about £40 more than the i5 but thats mainly down to the PSU i have now 2 the 1 in the i5 set up

Your CPU does have quite an uncommon overclock though. Not many people will see 5.4GHz.

Unless it's under Phase, I bet I can show its instability quite quickly lol.

Even at 5.4GHZ, it doesn't have the same grunt as a 4.8GHZ Sandy i5/i7 would in WoW, it's impossibru.

The IPC deficit isn't made up by that extra 600MHZ, and it doesn't use more threads than an i5/i7 have cores to make up the deficit in more cores.
Unless his CPU has fairy dust on it, it's factually impossible.

under water only i need silence cause tower is right next 2 me in the living room by the TV and i gotta hear the TV

Im not knocking intel i think there great cpu's just owning 2 and the FX i personaly prefer the AMD

Another thing i managed to overclock my ram much more on the AMD than i did on the i5, 2k+ on AMD 1800ish on the i5 but thats mainly down 2 the FSB overclocking

Was my post factually incorrect?

No..thought not, now do one.

I think this forum needs a face palming e-mote.

Just because mantle gives a performance increase to 8320/50, doesn't mean you will see the same benefit on another processor. If mantle helps utilize those extra cores and threads on an 8320/50, it will gain a better boost in performance over a i5. The boost from hardware optimization like this depends on the hardware and wont be a uniform improvement over all CPUs.

Whether the boost will push the fx 8 cores ahead of their intel equivalents, we wont know until we see mantle perform on both.

Wait so people cannot hit 60 fps in WoW? My athlon x2 5600k spanked wow...

Must have been a magic Athlon.

I'm not on about the general stuff, I mean hell, we've all used older CPU's perfectly fine, I'm on about end game when stuff gets messy.

Back when I played those games quite heavily, guess what I had? Phenom II's. In fact, I had one of the fastest conventionally cooled Thubans.

But I didn't bring up playing MMO's.

I was giving an example that FPS figures can change in an instance? I was literally just playing Borderlands 1, and I saw my FPS switch from 280 to 140 in a second :p

Not sure where the PhysX comes into it, it's the software implementation on the CPU that's running in BL1.

I do run an AMD GPU, an R9 290.

I don't like Nvidia as a company, I don't like the fact I can't use my monitor's 3D to its full with an Nvidia GPU, I only buy AMD GPU's.
