Thinking of switching from Intel to AMD

2600K at just 3.40GHz and matches FX8350 at 4.00GHz in BF4.

2600K: Far superior single-threaded performance/better performance clock for clock, with bigger overclocking headroom and will hit similar max frequency as the FX8 on overclock, cheaper and less hassle to upgrade.

only if he buys a 2nd hand 2600k would it be cheaper for him to upgrade to that

Little moot talking about brand new Sandy i7's when Ivy i7's are cheaper :p

Half tempted to upgrade to an i7 4770k right now.

So according to you Stock i7 = stock fx... OP has an i5.

Yes.
Every none OEM 1155 board takes every single 1155 chip, it'll even gain PCI-E 3.0 in the primary lane too (You could take a B3 H61 and chuck an i7 3770 in it and suddenly get the best CPU on the platform at stock and get PCI-E 3.0 in the primary lane)

Yes, that's 100% what he was saying. /Sarcasm.

A 2600K has anywhere upto 1.6GHZ in the tank, overclocking potential that's around 50%, the FX8350 at a potential 5GHZ is 25% OC'ing potential.
So, the 2600K gains the most in overclocking.

But is 2500k worth upgrading to 2600k ?
Depend on the graphic card being used, but one thing for sure- it's a better upgrade than to FX8, as it doesn't involve huge downgrade in performance for things that don't use 8 threads, and would deliver higher frame rate than the FX8 when both CPUs are on the same clock (i.e. when both are on 4.60GHz) even in games that use 8 threads (i.e. BF4).

Why not just buy an i7 and drop it into your current motherboard if you really want to upgrade? It will be faster then the FX in pretty much every situation won't it?

Being a friendly person fail. You can't being in a benchmark that shows the cheaper fx being even with an i7 and conclude the fx sucks.

I can read, do you know what you're writing?
You sure? Cause nowhere in my post said "FX sucks". What I said was the i7 is a better upgrade with all things considered?

This pretty much sums up the point I was making.
