Thinking of switching to intel, I have a fx 8320 at the moment, I was wondering what would be the best alternative and would it be worth it ?

Well thats what im thinking, but I was wondering what is better now currant gen, at the same time I was wondering if it be worth switching even with the next gen.

Would there be much of a improvement over my fx chip ?
and what is the cost of the CPU, so i can compare price vs performance

your current graphics card, I wouldn't change if I was you.

Your gains overall will be pretty low, in some specific games, say day z and Rome 2, you'll see higher gains.

They trade punches but overall the i5 is a faster chip due to the better IPC performance.

Have you overclocked your 8320? If not I strongly suggest you try that and see if you can squeeze some extra, free, performance out of it. I have the same CPU at 4.8GHz and it runs alongside my 7990 GPU quite happily however a 4770k would still be a better.

I will be upgrading my graphics card because its been sent for RMA, im using a gtx 285.

with that said I wont be going for anything like a 780ti, I dont see myself benefiting from it, other then the bragging right.

ive not overclocked yet, Ive got a temp gtx 285 would i still be able to overclock.

Thanks guys, I agree if im not going to see much improvement, Im better off sticking to the fx nd getting a better graphics card.

yeah the GPU doesn't determine what you can and can't do with an overclock.

You say the system is water cooled, is that via a custom loop or a all-in-one water cooler?

Hi
It's not worth the change.
i changed about a month ago from fx8350 to 4770k
and no change in gaming here.
only change i could see/notice is in benchmarking but thats all.
save your cash

Custom, I had some parts left over from my last build, so i just got what i needed and went custom.

it did end up costing me the gtx 660

Do you have any tips on how to overclock or is there any good topics on here you could give me a link to ?

Some good advice in there but it is a bit long.

Easiest way would be to set a manual voltage of 1.45 and then simply up the multiplier bit by bit. Play a few games, run prime95 to make sure it's stable and if so, increase it further.

Eventually you'll get to a point where the system freezes or crashes. Drop down the multi a tad and thats basically it.

If you want to delve into it further you can start messing with FSBxMulti overclocking which offers better performance but is a bit hit and miss getting the right settings.
