Hi guys,

I currently own a Silver 2001 Mk3 Mondeo 1.8 LX model, 96,000 miles on the clock, very good condition but am considering upgrading to an ST220.

I would have got an ST220 when I picked up the LX but didn't have the finances. I have however seen that the prices of them are around £3,000 - £3,500 for some excellent condition ST220s such as 2003 FORD MONDEO 3.0 V6 ST220 5DR SAT NAV FACELIFT MODEL which looks absoluetly mint.

I love everything about these cars, the look, the drive (i know this from driving a similar car obviously) and was even considering getting ST220 alloys to fit onto my LX a year ago very seriously but never did in the end as it was too much money just for wheels.

If I can sell my MK3 for £1000 which I am confident I can then I would effectively be buying an ST220 for £2- 2.5k.

A few concerns would be the petrol consumption though, how dramatically different would it be and also insurance wise, how much would this go up?

I am 27 in February, with NO claim bonuses and pay £50 a month for my LX at teh moment (after having a bump into someone at the end of 2009) which I shouldnt have told the cow about but nevermind!

Cheers for any advice.

I average 25-26mpg in mine which is about 50/50 town/motorway driving. Can't speak for the insurance obviously as everyone's different but yes it'll be more than a 1.8 Mondeo :p

My MPG is around 22. I get 32 on the motorway. It is worth noting I do an incredibly short trip from home to the office before I get the train into London 5 days a week, which hammers my figures.

My insurance last year was £710, with 2 years NCB and 6 points. It went up this year to £865...but after calling Bell several times to discuss, it is now down to £690 for this year. This is obviously with 3 years NCB, I'm a year older (24) and one set of my 3 points is no longer valid for totting up purposes, but they ask for anything in the last 5 years.

There are things to look out for when you buy, head over to ST drivers and read the Ford Wiki.

Alternatively if you see on online, float the link past the many ST220 drivers here and we'll give you our input.

The drive is 0.8 of a mile...the walk isn't as direct as the drive so it's literally 2mins in the car but 10-15 min walk.

edit: maintenance...it's a Ford servicing is cheap and so is my insurance.

They all look good in pictures, even the bottom of the barrel ones look good in pictures. You've got to look at them and drive them, not look at 3 pics of it covered in snow and declare it's a good one.
