How can you possibly say it looks okay given its covered in snow and two grand cheaper than it should be. You got called out for peddling BS, no need to back track.

Christ, he said it "looks" ok, not that it IS (beyond doubt) ok... Keep your knickers on :p

For the record it does look ok (I am judging the pics solely and not stating that it is AFFIRMATIVELY ok) lol , and minus the *****y attacks some people seem to be suffering from thanks for the replies... much food for thought.

I'm just advising you to be cautious, last thing you want is a total money pit and you might have to ditch the idea or up the budget to avoid buying into trouble.

Then thanks for advice, seeing the prices they were when i just did a search on autotrader is what made me think there are a few decent spec/condition ones going for that kind of price... like this one below:

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif.../page/1/postcode/le60dt/radius/1500?logcode=p

Obviously when purchasing a car I'd go over it with a fine tooth comb and try and take a proper petrol head with me but he moved to America :/

Just been looking at these. Values seem to be all over the place!

Is there actually anything obvious that separates the ones up around the £3.5k mark from the £5k+ ones on the same plate (Other than the "It is cheap and therefore must be junk" angle)?

I think there are a lot of ambitious vendors, and I do not think with the way the ST220 is on AT at the moment that you need to immediately dismiss any based solely on a low price.

I must say though, if that is the direction the ST220 market is going, that grey facelift even has me tempted at that price - it really is a lot of car for so little cash.

It is odd how these things work.

I do remember vaguely a time where getting a car cheap/below market price was supposed to be good, now it seems to mean it is undoubtedly a shed, got something to hide and you're a ***** for even considering not spending the £2k premium pretty much for the hell of it :D.

I know we've discussed this in length before, but people still seem to be quick to shoot down any cars with a few bad photos, perhaps a poorly worded ad and a few quid down on the going rate as an absolute shed.

It's a 55 plate ST220 for £3.5k where usually that money would buy you an 03/53 plate one with slightly above average miles... How is that not even a little bit suspicious :p It doesn't take a genius to scan Autotrader/Pistonheads for equivalent prices and get a little bit of knowledge of the market before you sell a car even if you have no prior idea of its value!

Because with the advent of the internet, its bindingly easy for Joe Bloggs to look at a large selection of similar cars and price accordingly. If someone, especially a dealer is selling something two grand cheaper than it is, 9/10 times there's a very good reason for this. I was putting down the particular ad Locky posted to try and disprove my point about struggling to get a nice example for £3500, one sitting at a dealer covered in snow, a hell of a lot cheaper than it should be. It's always worth spending a bit more to buy an example that you would be happy to own for a long time and place confidence in, the rate you go through cars Joshy I fear you might not get that point.

I don't really discriminate against badly worded adverts or poor pictures however I will treat them with caution. Looking at the AT link the OP posted £3500 might just about get you an early facelift in reasonable condition however a bit extra would secure a nice example.

If it was okay I'd still only offer £3250 because those wheels look absolutely awful.

Looking at pistonheads, a decent facelift sub 4k is really pushing it.

Both offside wheels look badly scuffed / corroded, the interior just has a 'well used' air about it, especially the rear seats. It's just not a car I'd really want to buy!

I must admit im starting to think that the free lunch is over, if you dont bag a bargain by striking while the iron is hot, ie man skint needs cash now today, there are less bargains kicking about out there, especially advertised ones.

Sad world struggling to get a crust i can tell you ;)
