I currently have an old AMD FX chip and board and looking to upgrade. Do you think this is the best way? Any recommendations are very welcome.

Hi,

Tell me exactly what you have at the moment from the case all the way through to DVD drive.

What is your upgrade budget and what do you use the PC for?

I have a Corsair Carbide Series SPEC-03 case, Asus DVD drive not sure the model be 5"25 one, Corsair RM650 PSU. I have a 1tb samsung drive (Laptop drive hence the two mounting brackets) but not in use and a 1tb WD blue HHD as my main with OS on it, Only got DDR3 ram so will have to get some of that. I have a R9 280 and a AOC 1080p monitor. I feel my CPU is harming my fps and that's why i am wanting to upgrade.

I use it mainly for gaming, and internet browsing. My budget is around £900

Which AMD CPU?

If you already have DDR3 and 8GB (2x4GB) then how about a Z97+i5 bundle?

That would not only be much cheaper than jumping straight to X99 it potentially is still a big upgrade depending on your current chip.

FX 4100 running at 4.1Ghz. I did think of that but I don't like to upgrade too often that's why I was thinking of X99 then after a while upgrade the GPU.

Ok.

So your case supports coolers upto 157mm according to corsairs website, that would mean the AKASA wont fit.

CPU+Board bundle saves money.
Good RAM
Cooler is 150mm tall and fits socket 2011 (2011 and 2011-3 are the same)
SSD is less sucky, the V300 had "bait and switch" so review samples are better than retail - http://www.anandtech.com/show/7763/an-update-to-kingston-ssdnow-v300-a-switch-to-slower-micron-nand

I don't think my case can take an EATX board and didn't do my research on the cooler. SSD swapped as I went for price.
