Am I alone in thinking that quite a few of the newer released TVs are beginning to get quite ugly due to the manufacturers quest for thinner and thinner bezels?

In my opinion TVs need a bit of bezel to break up the screen from the surrounding area. Samsung seem to be the biggest culprits of this but im sad to say that Panasonic are now fighting them for the crown. Panasonics of the past have never been beauties, but they werent ever ugly in my opinion until now. :(

What is your opinion?

Complete opposite opinion compared to the OP. I prefer TVs with a thin as possible bezel

I would prefer a smaller bezel but it's not something I'd pay extra or sacrifice picture quality for, hence owning a fairly hefty-bezel'd Panasonic Plasma.

I'm with the OP on this. Too thin a bezel doesn't look right to me. I find the Samsung looks odd, and has too thin a bezel IMO. On the other hand, you can have too much bezel as well.

I am of the thin bezel brigade.

Own the Sammy in the OP and absolutely love it compared to my old 32" Bravia. Have gone up from 32" to 40" and the only difference in TV footprint is a slight increase in overall width. It is actually lower in height.

This has to be a winner as you get more screen space in the same footprint and also reduces wife aggro for increase in screen size.

I agree that the image seems to be 'hanging' in free space in the room, but I really like that. Dont have mine wall mounted, but imagine that would look great.

I also cant wait to see edge to edge screens........especially when the tech rolls down to monitors and I can have bezel-less Eyefinity

exactly the same for me..I am limited by space..and the current crop of tv's means I can squezze a bigger screen in the same place

My Samsung has little (5mm?) bezel and it's perfect.

The only thing that makes the Samsung in the OP's post ugly is the horrendously fugly stand that the tv has... Take it off and pop it on the wall and it will look just right.

I like bezels due to the perceived contrast increase, particularly when using rear bias-lighting as it frames the picture. The bezel doesn't have to be massive though.

Also having a bit of a bezel makes the TV look bigger overall....

I had a Samsung D6530 and it looked smaller than my other 40" TV because of the Bezel.

No bezel at all hanging on the wall would probably be pretty cool though

Agree with this, and the picture frame analogy.

Bezels provide some protection (albeit not much) for the screen too.

Bezel-less screens would be nice for some scenarios but I think I would prefer a very thin black bezel to just frame the image slightly
