Thinner Bezels = Ugly?

If it's wall mounted or there's nothing behind/around then thinner the better. But if there's stuff around/behind the display then a bezel (not thick) frames the image.

Im all for a bit of bezel.
A pioneer Kuro KRP 500/600 for example just oozes quality and even when turned off looks stunning with its gloss black bezel and that "Pioneer" badge....seriously stylish and even more so when wall mounted!!The dogs wotsits.
These new Samsung ultra thin bezel sets just look like gimmicky, tacky Korean junk.......wait a minute......they are gimmicky, tacky Korean junk...my mistake!

The bezel I think adds style and character to the display if done nicely. If you remove it entirely the display becomes generic looking, it's only because it's new and fashionable that people like it really.

I think we should make this thread into

****** POST YOUR UBER BEZEL *********

Post pictures of your monster retro bezel and whoever has the biggest bezel is the win.

Commence!

My Bravia has a reasonably chunky bezel, but I really like how it looks overall:

The grey bar at the bottom helps break it up I think, plus it's a 40" so it doesn't look out of proportion, whereas on smaller screen sizes it can end up making the actual screen look tiny.

Thinner is better, and 9/10 people that come into store are always wowed at how thin they have got compared to just a few years ago.

its a shame the only panas with really thin bezels are the LED's i want a plasma thats finished like the WT50.

I think I see where the OP is coming from but my opinion on the issue is determined by the background behind the TV.

If the TV is wall mounted or has it's rear facing a plain/uniform wall (preferably a different colour to the TV's edge)then the thinner the better for me but if it's on a stand in the corner for example with a few different things behind it (e.g. a lamp or cabinet etc) then I do need a bit of a border to break it up as it can be a little strange for me to focus on the edges.

it's not an ugliness thing though for me.

I have a fairly thin bezel on my Samsung 37", which I like very much. Trouble is compared to other 37's with thicker frames, it makes it look absolutely tiny.

Once or twice I've actually had to get the tape measure out to make sure it is a 37!

have a Samsung UE46EH6030 46inch and the bezel is thin as hell but i like it like that

the lg i have in the bedroom has no bezel 2012 model but the Panasonic gt30 downstairs does and i love them both.

I think very thin bezels detract the viewer attention away from the screen onto the surrounding where as thicker bezels act as a kind of border keeping the viewer attention focussed onto the screen and hence the concentration.

Contrary to OP, I actually think the ES8000 is rather lovely.

Won it in a competition. Unfortunately it's gonna have to go back because the tuner's broken... but until then MINIMAL BEZEL AWESOMENESS.

Could always just get a Freeview HD box and clag that in if you are limited to FreeView......but suppose a fully working one would be better...less wires, plugs, things for Mrs to whinge about....
