Hi,
So firstly I'll give you my computer specs:
Motherboard: Asus P6T
CPU: i7 920 @ 4Ghz
RAM: 9GB DDR3 @ 1600Mhz
GPU: 2x ATI 5870
HDD: 1x Raptor (OS HD)
1x Samsung F3 (1TB secondary HD)
1x Western Digital (1TB Third HD)
OS: Windows 7 64bit
Ok so I had a issue towards the end of last year where one of my hard drives well
my third hard drive to be exact would randomly disappear at any random time. I
have a corsair 800D so I have swappable hard drive bays. Basically to fix the
problem I swapped the hard drives around and that fixed it for a few months.
Then two days ago it started again, the hard drive would disappear at any
random time then I would have to go into device manager and rescan for new
hardware to find it, then it would disappear again within the hour. At first I
thought ok my hard drive is on it's way out as it is somewhere along the lines
of 3-5 years old. So I bought a new Hard drive (the western digital) and
yesterday it started doing it again.
What I have tried:
Switching around drives (So new sata to the drive along with new port on motherboard).
Putting it in Jmicro port.
Updating Bios of motherboard.
Updating drivers of hard drive.
Switching power connector.
Now so far so good. I have switched the power connector with no problems
but my PC has only been on for like 30 minutes at the moment so I will
keep you all posted. I read that this problem is common due to the power
connector not being in properly so when the drive slows down or stops
spinning it cant get enough power to continue.
The reason I made this thread is for a few new ideas as chances are it may
not work and I'm going out soon and will be leaving my computer switched on
for a test run. So if it is doing it again when I come back I should hopefully have
some new ideas to try.
