Third HDD w/OS installed

Quick question, I am running my PC with a SSD as primary (WIN 8 64Bit), then have a 1TB HDD as my secondary for storage.

However I now need to temporarily put in an old Sata drive to get some photos from it... now this HDD has WIN XP installed as it was a boot drive for this old machine.

If I put this in as say a third drive, can I access the files as normal, take the photos off and transfer them to my 2nd drive? Or could this cause some issues?

Also if its fine, is it a case of plug in and go? Or do I need to fiddle in the BIOS etc to get the system to recognise it as a 3rd drive - or even do something in Windows?

Cheers,

Plug it in and go. If your computer tries to boot into XP, go into BIOS and change the boot order so your SSD is #1 prio (I expect it would be anyway so this shouldn't be an issue). Then you can just access the files as you would as though it was a storage drive within Windows.
