This Bryan Kohberger case, shows death penalty is flawed?

Ironically that same government forces its citizens to pay for keeping the criminals locked up at huge expense, though the threat of violence of taxation.

I'd say the latter was the bigger injustice.

I presume you are getting involved in politics to rise to the role of PM and change the way the country works then so no-one has to pay any taxes?

Much like the NHS, I am happy to pay for things that help us - like keeping criminals off our streets. Hell, I’d pay more in taxes if it meant building more prisons and hiring more prison staff to run them and it all worked properly.

No, they are already put up for the death penalty, but you will likely get a lesser sentence for a guilty plea, such as life without parole.

Are you splitting hairs.

If I fight the charges the judge can lump me with the death penalty.

If I don't fight the charges, that's taken off the table.

How does that support the death penalty.

I think it's simple - if the state prosecutors want the death penalty then make them liable to prosecution should it be shown it's invalid or does not present enough evidence to a jury to be supportive. The result will be more due-diligence and responsibility in edge cases. To me the request for a death penalty and execution of an innocent person lies squarely on the state's decision to pursue - this means the pursuing prosecutor is party to gross misconduct and dereliction of duties. Prevention rather than cure is better in this scenario.

It's interesting that if you say you're guilty you don't get a death penalty - this is saying that the death penalty is due to lying to the state/justice system and not being guilty of murder..
