This Business and Moment...

How are other people dealing with the post-100k implications and childcare?

I am in a real productivity rut - if the spreadsheet on the GOV website is correct, I am entitled to £12ph x 38 weeks x 30 hours = 13,680 plus £2k tax-free plus £2k tax-free for my other child. That's £17,680 value whilst they're under two. It gets a bit less than that between 2 and 3, and a bit less again between 3 and 4. But still substantial value.

So to "see" anything in my take home, I need at least £146500k/year in salary to just break even? Assuming a flat 62% rate for assumption purposes.

Organisations need to wake up to this, no?
Have a look on r/henryuk - sub on reddit.

Pension contributions to take it below 100k.
Yeah and a fleet of EVs and a racing bike --- actually, can I get an ebike on Cycle 2 Work? :D

The problem is one of incentivisation and motivation.

Reduced hours, if that's an option?
I had forgotten my maths on this from years ago...I could drop 2 days a week and still be quids in

I'm taking it up the backside with no lube. Stupid rules, wife doesn't earn much, yet next door who earn a fair amount more than we do as a household are entitled to it.
Isn't your comp heavily stocks tho? Does taking stock and paying CG get around this or is it considered income?

Why don't you just reduce it as much as you can and then take the hit on the rest. You still get 15hrs. Better than nothing.

Been an interesting month.

Sold my taxi company !!!

Business tanked during Covid then bounced back over the past couple of years up to a peak of 170 cars.

Was made a very reasonable offer to buy us out from a larger rival and an ongoing role in the new parent company.

Also got engaged last week.

It’s been a good few weeks

Meeting senior management tomorrow. They will be proposing an offer to become the senior/lead GP at the one of the practices I work at and take on all the clinical responsibilities. Long term it's a dead end job and the renumeration won't be anything special. Will also push me well into the 60% tax trap and loss of childcare hours. Will listen to what they say but all the extra work for 30p in the pound from where I am now and no longer term partnership offer seems all a bit pointless.

Been asked to go to Madrid next week to give a finance input for a new acquisition after the integration director realised i was based in Spain now.

Trying to decide on how to get there
I suggest taking a different approach and running there :p

On a serious note, I’d drive there. Least then more of the general travel is within your control and you get to sing in the car.

30pc pay raise is pretty decent though. And all you have to do is not answer the phone and say there are no appointments :o:D:p

Is it a platform to a proper partnership?

Well I've been working through the assignment. In short it's been a while since I did a proper university argument assignment and it's a bit more rigorous than my old uni :D.. got my first draft done and I've got until end of Tuesday to submit it. Some rework tomorrow I feel but I'm feeling happy about it.

It's funny they say 7-10 hours per week.. that's of focused time so it's been a good learning experience for the upcoming weeks.

Haha yes. We're all very lazy! :p

No end game here I'm afraid. There's no route to a partnership, EVER. It's operated by a few salaried GPs with nurse practitioners, with non clinical management and a board of other (non patient facing) GPs pulling the strings. They need direction and leadership on the ground day to day as they don't want to get their hands dirty. Expected offer is a payrise of 11K for the extra work/headache/risk. To put that into perspective I can do one evening out of hours per week (4 hour shift) for a little over £21K per annum (into a Ltd Co) tax efficiently.

Wowza. Any retribution if you bin them off?
