I had PluralSight for free with work, used it to get an Azure cert. But I find these days I can learn what I require from YouTube and other free sources. Scum move, but they seemed to have covered their backsides in the Ts&Cs.
 
I had forgotten I even had this - I think an employer gave me a license and then I used it once or twice.

Quite funny how my "lifetime access account" has just been deleted.

It feels like something is going to happen at my place. The hard stop all teams face when things reach the funnel of our ops/infra team has reached a point where our CTO has caught wind of it. It's only taken him several years, but hey.

I think the last straw may have been the other day when a manager had to raise a ticket to be able to raise a ticket in the right place, to in fact raise a ticket for approval to be able to raise another ticket on a different system, to then wait 2 weeks for a response which was resolved by ops team with "this is not allowed".

Spoke to a couple of recruiters this week who explained decent sounding jobs, then they send me the spec and it reads completely differently. When questioned they say the spec isn't really right and what they said is right. What am I meant to do with that?...

Well you are meant to believe the pimps. That's what they would rather you did. They are only a few down from estate agents at times in my experience. They will say whatever they think will make you take the job so they get their cut.
 
I assume generic job specs and descriptions are not serious. There's has to be some thing in there that's oddly specific or unusual before I'll take it seriously. Any inconsistency and I just forget about it.

I'm guessing it's a variation on Chief Dev Tech Info Officer?

In ours on a regular basis a new team or new manager refuses to use the existing support system and creates a new one, or a new mail box, or just uses email or such. So many convoluted ways of doing something so simple. Then argue about the support process.

All while ignoring as much support as they can until it blows up in to a crisis.

I've had situations like this to a certain extent, as long as I'm interested enough to proceed I just make a point of specifically bringing it up in the interview with the employer.

What I would say is, it's not uncommon for job specs to be slightly off centre beyond just wideboy recruiters trying to pull a fast one. If you think about all the jobs you've ever done, have they always had accurate job specs? Have you ever interviewed somewhere and discovered they are looking for something different than the impression you got from the job spec? I remember interviewing for a 'Head of' role with a lot of talk about strategy etc in the spec, they a grand blueprint plan they wanted to execute, which I uncovered was going to be incredibly hands-on with a grand total of 1 engineer assigned to help. I flat out told them it seemed more like a Principal Engineer role and I didn't think they could achieve their ambitions with the level of resourcing they were talking about. 10 years earlier I'd probably have just told them what they wanted to hear and potentially ended up in a misfitting role.

Furthermore, when I was a hiring manager there was pressure from HR to 'jazz up' the spec a bit, making it a lot more streamlined and conversational in tone. When I interviewed people I explained what we were looking for (and sometimes NOT looking for) and that wasn't always 100% clear in the job specs.

Also had that two years ago.

Recruiter called me for an System Engineer role, had the first interview with the company. Turned out to be an DevOps/Developer role. Zero interaction with any servers or physical systems. It was all backend programming.

Asked for feedback after the interview, told them they should change the job description and title.

I started a process with one company back in November, 6 interviews later, they called me to invite me for a in-person interview to speak to people I already spoke to and the internal recruiter couldn't confirm, if this would be the final one... What a S...show. Another company that got back to me this week, I had my intro in November, 1st interview mid/end of December and they wanted to invite me for a 2nd round, told me there would be an assignment and 1 more interview to present the work etc.

I told them all, that I already accepted an offer and sealed the deal by signing the contract. The company in Europe took 2-3 weeks from start to finish with Christmas and New Years eve in the middle and me longing it out a little because I had 2nd thoughts. If they can do it in under 2 weeks, why does it take months in the UK? Serious question.

100%. It pains me.

We started hiring in November for entry level testers, my 3rd time hiring this role in 2 years. Job descriptions all the same, interview questions etc just a repeat. After first interviews HR came back to us about visa status of the candidates and they had misinterpreted our requests. So my management and HR dithered over it til last week when we asked them to call the shortlist and invite them back. One out of three answered, came for interview today. We'll make an offer next week.

It's always like this. Takes literal months to get a job approved, listed, interviews and second round.

Edit: also we have a job listing open which closes Monday. The person we're replacing left 1st July. So that's 5-6 months to write a new job description and post it online.

I handed in my notice end of Feb, beginning of March, my colleague followed me and handed his after 3/4 weeks after me, they struggled to find anyone for months, they settled for a Junior to get some help and they still haven't found anyone Mid/Senior to fill the other role.
