shadows_of_the_cannon_by_pirateneilsouth-d3091o7.jpg

As a processing point of view can you give any pointers to improve this image? , i'm currently learning black and white layer effects to give images more depth

I think it looks good too, perhaps a tiny bit too heavy with the blacks given its quite busy (in terms of textures).

If I was being massively picky I would mask the water on the right hand side of the cannon and lighten it a touch so is more in line with the water on the left hand side.

Back and tip of the cannon are both a bit heavy on black. The lighting looks inconsistent too, see how the shadow runs along the top of the cannon until it reaches the tip where it's light? Similarly there is a light section at the back of the cannon running the length until the tip again where shadow from below takes over. There is also a halo around the cannon (likely a result of shadows/highlights or just general D&B - most prominent at the back) which needs addressing. I would probably bring the clouds up a touch and just go with a standard vignette too, as it looks a little overpowering in the two top corners.

I like it :)

The halo effect is a bit off putting, and the burn thing mentioned above, but that's definitely the way to go with that image for sure (in my opinion).
