This is it

Why the 920 and why the 260? The 920 is a wierd thing that doesn't fit in, you could downgrade to the 810 or upgrade to the 940. As for the 260, swap it out for a 4870 or a 4890.

if your right on your budget limit for that swap the 260 for a 1gb 4870 and change the processor to the AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition 3.2GHz.

Ah, third spec thread now, must be coming close now.

That CPU is pretty old and expensive, especially when you compare it to this awesomeness for a mere £6 more.

If you go for an AMD chipset board, I suggest not going for an Nvidia card - as you have no opportunity to add a second card later. Get this card instead, it is just as fast as the GTX 260, but it's cheaper and will work in multi-GPU configurations on AMD boards. I suggest getting this board instead as it is much newer and will last you longer (however, you will need some DDR3 RAM like this to go with the AM3 board).

PSU is great.

Why do you say that? As far as I can tell that 4890 is only £10 more and is considerably faster and a second one can be added later using Crossfire (the 260 could not do this).

Crossfire + SLI only really make sense if you buy two top end cards from the start. If he starts bottlenecking on a 4890, then he'll be better served by switching to a single 5xxx or 300 series GPU.

I suppose there is an argument for that. But the way I see it - when DX11 cards come out the price of 4890s will plummet. Furthermore, DX11 won't be properly implemented in games for a few years - so having a DX10.1 setup is not going to restrict you much and will be very cost effective.

I remember Nvidia saying SLI is a way of upgrading without breaking the bank :p

best poke per pound is a 260 or 4870 imo. The 275 or 4890 are faster, but not 25% faster and that's the premium you pay on them. both are good cards, ATI cards are slightly better in raw pace - but nvidia cards have an edge with Physx and such. It won't be a big deal in the future, but there are a couple of (good) games where it makes a difference. If you plan to play Mirrors Edge or Batman, get the 260 otherwise the 4870.

I'd go for the 260.
