The only REAL complaint about AMD I had was OpenGL performance and BOOM! baby!.

Is it at Nvidia level, I guess someone will have to test that out but it's far better than where it was.

So which games have 55% improved performance?
I skimmed through the video but it would appear to be unigine heaven and superposition :D

Minecraft also loads faster!

Reading the comments this appears to be of most benefit to emulators as most still use OpenGL.

That was one reason why I went with Nvidia, for emulators (although Vulkan is pretty stable now on most) and the odd games like Minecraft.

Is this only for W11? I can see benchmarks for RDNA1 and 2 cards, but will this also benefit older cards, for example the 480/580?

Great, now all they need to do is deliver a similar fix to their appalling RT performance and I may actually consider buying one of their cards again..

If performance has increased by 55% the verb your looking for 'fixed' not 'improved'.
If you are going to be that pedantic, then you would need to identify how the code was changed to gain this performance. Did the performance come from fixing broken code or did a fresh pair of eyes realise that there is a more efficient way of achieveing something.

Look at the video thumb nail and what does it say.

Didn't OpenGL work much better on the linux drivers for amd?
Yes I believe they did. Unlike Nvidia, AMD have been Linux, and open source, friendly for a long time and have actively helped the community to create drivers. It's interesting to see that the open source drivers, at least in respect of OpenGL, are actually better than the closed source Windows drivers.

I guess it's because OpenGL isn't a priority nowadays for a commercial company, and AMD have never really had the same resources for driver development that Nvidia had. But the open source community are able to work on that area as there is less of a financial drive behind decision making. It may even be the case that the faster OpenGL approach taken by the open source community may have been used as a basis for these improvements on Windows. But that's just me taking a wild guess.

Yep, if you look at something like Minecraft java edition AMD cards will get easily beat by nVidia cards several tiers lower under Windows but same AMD card under Linux will get much better performance.
Have heard of people dual booting just for this issue.

Wish AMD had done this years back but good to see them finally getting around to it and adding value to their cards.
