just fished out my old receipt from my last major pc upgrade, which included the purchase of a AMD Athlon 64 3500+ back in march 2005, which cost, from ocuk £154.95 + vat..... now you can buy a q6600 for £146 which has each core clocked 200mhz faster than my old Athlon.... which makes it £8 cheaper.... !

'eh, Moore's law is 18 months for 4x perf for the money.

2005 - 2007 > 18 months. We're just about right given the Duo is more powerful clock for clock and we're cheating as we're not increasing the transister count per square meter just adding more cores, damn that leakage wall to the 45nm process.

my AMD 4400+ from here cost me £240+ a year and a half ago, now £100

plus... get this one, my graphics card saphire 1900xtx 512mb cost me £550 from here! same time, (was more than i paid for my car)

now can get for around £100 :(

Nasty isn't it?...the thing is do you feel you've had £450 worth out of the thing?

thank man ;)

only problem i have right now, is my pc has not been running for a month, and i hopefully wont loose all my work thats on one of the harddrives, (didnt back up in time) there's about 100gigs worth of work on there :/

and when i upgrade...
all my windows/programs will take me days again to do again!

i still cant believe the prices of pc components these days.
i worked out it will cost me £350 to upgrade to quad core,
new motherboard + memory, such a good price,

now i have the problem of finding the money to pay for it ;)

Heh major cpu purchases for me in recent years are a 2700+ 2.17Ghz Tbred B @ little over 300 :o , 3500+ Newcastle @ about 250 :o and Opteron 165 at 250 as well :o

I think I paid £300 when the 7800GTX was first released I got it on overclockers and they disappeared from *** site a few weeks after, now you can get an 8800GTS for less than £200

Just having paid the same price as the Q6600 for the E6400 in December plus tons for the RAM that costs nothing seems crazy, don't even wanna think about the computer i bought 10 years ago which was the foundation for what i've upgraded on until now - auch!
